Electrical Shutdown Maintenance Medical Plan Presentations (2014) Parking Purchasing **Electrical Shutdown** During the semiannual PM shutdown there will be several electrical shutdowns to make tie-ins for the laboratory expansion projects. Please be aware of these shutdowns and arrange your schedule accordingly. The most significant shutdown will take place Tuesday, 8 Oct 2013, from 7:30 am - 8:30 am. During this shutdown, power will be off to most of the offices on the west side of the building - including lighting. Please power down computers and other critical office equipment prior to the shutdown. Additionally, other important building functions may be affected: * ITAP computer closets - it is possible that the entire building will lose the computer network during that time * West door to the building - the door will lock down * Card Reader system - this shutdown may affect the card reader system, and therefore access to the laboratories * Elevators - the elevators will be locked down on the first floor * Fire panels - we may hear the trouble alarm in the atrium * Convenience outlets in the west galleys * Atrium lighting - some or all of the lights in the atrium may be affected Please note that we are depending on the building drawings and panel schedule for this information. While we believe these to be correct, there is always the possibility that the contractor who built the building made a mistake on a panel schedule and an unforeseen area may lose power. Monday, 7 October 2013 (afternoon) and Wednesday, 9 October 2013 (morning) some of the power for emergency lighting will be shut down for 1-hour periods. This will not have a significant effect, but you may see lights shutting off during those times. Please note that the normal PM communicated previously will be going on during these shutdowns. Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation during these shutdown events. Air handling systems, exhaust systems, toxic gas delivery, and monitoring systems will be down beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, October 7 through 4 p.m. Friday, October 11. The BNC staff will be performing appropriate preventive maintenance on the process equipment at this time as well. All CLEANROOM research work will be suspended until the maintenance activities are completed and all systems are returned to normal. No one will be allowed to enter the cleanroom during this time period. In addition, the laboratory areas will also be affected by this systems maintenance. As such, all LABORATORY activities that involve exhausted hoods, vacuum systems, and/or toxic gas systems will be down beginning 9 a.m. Monday, October 7 through 4 p.m. Friday, October 11. However, work that involves taking standard electrical measurements may be carried out in the LABS provided that fluctuating air temperature and humidity do not affect the readings. No chemical work will be allowed during this period. It is anticipated that the building and process tool maintenance will be completed by the end of the day on Friday, October 11. Please check Coral for equipment status and availability. Due to the new lab expansion projects electrical outages are required that will mainly affect the office areas. We will send out a notice with a date and time of the power outage when we have more detailed information from Physical Facilities. Dr. Michael Lilly Sandia National Laboratory "Manipulating single electrons in semiconductor devices for quantum computing" Friday October 04, 2013 3:30pm PHYS 203 Refreshments are served at 3:00 p.m. in Physics room 242. Semiconductor nanoelectronic devices can be combined, or integrated, in a variety of ways to control single electrons and form a qubit. In a qubit, the quantum mechanical properties of a two-level system serve as the basic component of a quantum computer. In our group, we have focused on silicon devices where electrons are confined in either quantum dots or single donor atoms. One approach is to use the spin of two electrons in a double quantum dot. Results on Pauli spin blockade for MOS double dots will be presented. Another approach to make a qubit is using to the spin of a single electron. Pulsed measurements are used for electrical spin readout. Using such pulsing techniques, we have measure the energy relaxation time of a single electron spin in silicon and find T1 lifetimes exceeding 1 second. Sandia National Laboratories is a multi-program laboratory managed and operated by Sandia Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin Corporation, for the U.S. Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration under contract DE-AC04-94AL85000.

Please go to http://www.iupap.org/commissions/c10/page_55794.html for more information. **Equipment Use and Coral Inquiries** Please note that we use Coral to track equipment use, maintenance, downtime and development time. It is very important that all users log out of Coral at the end of their process runs, which frees up the equipment for the next user. On occasion, some users have forgotten to log out of Coral at the end of their runs, and this then shows the equipment still being used. This blocks other prospective users from enabling the equipment, and over the long term this lowers income in the various recharge centers. Purchasing Transition from SRM to Ariba

Hello All, This is an important message to anyone who does purchasing in SRM. The go-live date for Ariba is October 14th. We all must be ready to input orders into the new system on that date. SRM will be shut off and no new ordering will be allowed after that date. Please make sure that you sign up for training. I have attached your training options below. There is a SRM Shutdown Schedule for SRM (also attached), as of October 4th we will have limited access to SRM. We will only be able to make purchases the are with preferred vendors. So please plan accordingly, if you have items that you can order ahead please do so. We will be unable to place any orders in SRM that require Purchasing Agent approval. If you have a question about what vendors you can order from during this time please send me an email with questions. I will quickly respond to you. We want to make this a smooth transition for all.
