Bicycles Flexible Substrates in the Airco E-Beam Evaporator Floor waxing Health & Wellness Fair Seminar Bicycles Bicycles are not allowed in the building. This is a campus wide rule. Even with the weather turning cold, you must park your bikes in the bike rack in front of Birck. 7.03 SPECIAL UNIVERSITY REGULATIONS (a) Bicycles may be parked on campus only in bicycle racks and on bicycle pads provided specifically for this purpose. Motorcycles are not allowed in bicycle parking areas. Bicycles must be ridden on designated campus drives and bike paths. Any bicycles found in violation of these regulations may be removed and/or ticketed with a violation notice. Flexible Substrates in the Airco E-Beam Evaporator We continue to receive a high number of requests from multiple research groups to evaporate standard materials onto flexible substrates of various kinds, such as polyimides, polymers, and flexible roll materials. Because of the nature of these materials, they typically outgas during deposition in our systems so we have restricted flexible substrates to be used in the Varian only. (Base pressures in systems with flexible substrates are higher). However we have had such a high number of requests that we're now going to offer the Airco evaporator as an alternate system for evaporating materials onto flexible substrates. Effective Monday, November 30th the Airco evaporator will become the second e-beam system in which flexible substrates are allowed. We believe that by offering two e-beam systems for flexible substrates we will be able to accommodate more users more efficiently. Please let us know if you have any issues or concerns. UPS SHUT DOWN (Uninterruptable Power Supply) On 7 January 2016 Purdue Physical Facilities will be shutting down the center's Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) power to the front half of the building. The outage is needed to add electrical capacity to the UPS distribution system. As result of this UPS interruption there is a direct impact on the building control systems resulting in shutting down HVAC and chemical exhaust systems for both east and west laboratory wings. This requires us to shut down laboratory activities that involve exhausted hoods, vacuum systems, and/or toxic gases - no chemical work will be allowed during this period. However, work that involves taking standard electrical measurements may be carried out in the LABS provided that fluctuating air temperature and humidity do not affect the readings. The UPS interruption should take from 4 to 8 hours to complete - barring any unforeseen issues. Normal power in all the laboratories will not be affected and will available during the time the UPS power is shutdown. The cleanroom UPS power will not be affected as well. Coral Kiosk Computer Back Up in Cleanroom

Dear all Birck users, The Coral Kiosk computer in the main aisle of the cleanroom has been fixed by ECN and returned to service. Normal reservations, enables, and disables can again be done on that computer. Thanks for your patience while we worked through these issues. If it happens to fault again over the weekend, Coral itself will remain up but a remote computer would have to be used for reservations, equipment enables, etc. Or another option has been to log in under your own profile and launch Coral from there. Hopefully you won't need to do that as the kiosk computer will continue to run Coral properly. Thanks, Ron

Holiday Purdue University will be closed Thursday, November 26th and Friday, November 27th in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday. Purdue University will also be closed Thursday, December 24th through Sunday, January 3rd in observance of the winter recess. Please plan ahead. Materials Management and Distribution Services/ Surplus Store Holiday Recess Schedules Materials Management and Distribution Services, which includes Purdue's Surplus Store, will shut down for Thanksgiving vacation November 26 and 27, returning to normal hours of operation on Monday, November 30. Please make sure to drop off any outgoing packages to MMDC no later than 4pm on Wednesday, November 25. Beginning December 24, 2015 through January 3, 2016, there will be no mail delivery; Purdue University's normal operations will shut down, virtually. Please make sure to drop off outgoing packages to MMDC no later than 4pm on Wednesday, December 23. Normal operations will resume on Monday, January 4. If you have FedEx or UPS packages that need to go out during this time, you will have to process them online and call FedEx or UPS directly to schedule a pickup. Coral Log-In Computer in Cleanroom is Down

Dear All Birck Users, The Coral reservation/enabling system is still working but the log-in computer in the main aisle of the cleanroom is down so please use other means to enable, disable, reserve, etc. You can do these operations remotely from your desktop or some other computer, just not from the one log-in computer in the cleanroom.
