New Laboratory Policies

To all laboratory users in the Birck Nanotechnology Center: As most of you are aware, there has been a joint team reviewing the operating policies in the BNC laboratories for several months. This team, chaired by David Janes, consists of faculty, staff, and students who are involved in the operation of the laboratories and cleanroom. The team has made the first set of revisions to the policies, these revisions have been approved by the co-directors of the center, and are now released. The new policies, shown on the attached slides, are effective immediately. Postings in support of this document will be going up in the next few days, but the policies are now in force. It is understood that these policies are a living document, and there will be changes taking place as needed. While there were several items of discussion that had not yet been resolved, the team believed that it was important to release this information while still working on further revisions. I would like to thank the many people - students, faculty, and staff - who participated in this process and provided valuable input. John John R. Chamber After Hours Invitation

Here are additional details regarding the Chamber After Hours event. You are reminded that if you decide to attend, you should be sure to RSVP (using the information contained on the invitation). * Canopy tent will be placed in front of BDMCE. * There is approval for beer and wine in BDMCE and in the tent. * Parking arrangements have been made with Parking Facilities and Purdue police to not ticket those parked in gravel lot across the street or in the circle in front of the building. * The Chamber Board is meeting in MRGN prior to the After Hours event. About 24 people. * Guests should arrive at the tent. * Mike Piggott will introduce everyone. * Al will speak first 3 minutes should coordinate with John Norberg. * President Jischke will speak 5 minutes announce Schumann gift * Guests are then free to explore. * The Union will cater food and alcohol in MRGN. * Housing and Food Services will cater food (no alcohol) to Birck. * Gladiaux will cater food (no alcohol) to Bindley. * Caterers and/or Midwest Rentals is supplying tables, utensils, linens, etc. * Genie will check for approval to carry alcohol while walking from building to building. * Formal tours will not be given. BIRCK CENTER IS WORKING ON THIS; INDIVIDUALLY YOU DO NOT NEED TO TAKE ANY ACTION. * Each Center should arrange for greeters at doors. POSSIBLE STUDENT COUNCIL MEMBERS * A few people should be strategically ³placed² to answer any questions. If possible, Genie asked that one lab in each building be open with a staff member in the lab. * It was also suggested that signs be placed outside of labs to describe ³what happens here.² * Genie¹s office will provide directional signs. * Genie¹s office will pay for custodial service. * Each caterer is responsible for cleaning their area. * President and Patty Jischke will be present for the entire time. * Deans and above were given an invitation. * Spouses are invited. * E-MAIL THIS MORNING INDICATED THAT WE SHOULD DISTRIBUTE TO PEOPLE IN OUR BUILDINGS. Materials in EE 306/206

ECE labs 306 and 206 will be turned over to the ECE Department in the next couple of weeks. Please remove all samples/material that belong to you by Monday August 8th. This includes the dry boxes. MSEE 289

On Monday of next week (July 31st) the following systems will be packaged and readied for move to the Birck Center. The systems are as follows: CHA - electron Beam evaporator, Suss mask aligner, and the RIE. Both the RIE and CHA systems are in desperate need of maintenance and the maintenance will be done in Birck before the systems are brought up to running state. The mask aligner will be down for approximately 3 days, the CHA and RIE for several weeks. The Varian and Airco evaporators are up and running in the Birck cleanroom. We will do everything in our power to shorten the downtime of moving these systems. Dave Lubelski
