Everyone, Huston Electric will be connecting the power to the car charging station Friday March 3rd. If everything goes well, the station will be ready for use. All require the EV hangtag EXCEPT the one in the Grant Street Garage. Visitors may use the stations in any garage/area with a $5.00 per day visitor "A" and a $2.00 EV pass purchased in our office. Visitors using the Grant Street Garage do not need the $2.00 pass or the $5.00 day visitor pass as they pay by the hour or have a swipe card purchased by a department for their use. Morgan building, room 121, from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. Autonomous vehicles will have far reaching societal implications, impacting domestic and international transportation, automotive, engineering, software and hardware development firms. It will also result in an increased demand for transportation research and development, which will be the driving force for realizing the growth of the industry. The purpose of this information session is to learn more from Indiana-based developers and entrepreneurs about the future of the auto mobility ecosystem, gain the perspective of faculty and staff in this sector, and capture applicable research and areas of convergence that compliment this fast-growing industry. John Fairbanks, President and Principal Broker of the Fairbanks Investment Group, will also participate in the info session and discuss the potential for a new technology hub, the Indiana Transportation Research and Development District, which would accelerate automotive and autonomous component validation. Topics to be addressed in the information session include: · Integrated Technology Systems/AI · Sensor and Software Evaluation Technologies · Security and Safety Testing/Cyber · Transportation Planning and Design Standards · Research & Development Assets · Public Policy and Regulatory Considerations Following the session, a panel of Purdue faculty including Laurel Weldon (Political Science), Srinivas Peeta (Civil Engineering), and Greg Shaver (Mechanical) and others will discuss their research and innovation needs for the future, and answer questions about possible contributions the potential project moving forward. Parking is available on the west side of the Burton D. Morgan Building. Prof. Richard Voyles (Professor and Director of the Robotics Accelerator) will also hold a demonstration, Autonomous Stunt Driving - Self-Driving Cars in Extreme Conditions, beginning at 1 p.m. in the Morgan Café. The Collaborative Robotics Lab and IEEE RAS Purdue Student Chapter is exploring autonomous vehicle control in difficult and highly dynamic driving conditions, such as slippery roads, sandy off-road conditions and high-speed racing. These highly dynamic and unstable driving scenarios present safety risks and technical challenges to self-driving cars if they inadvertently experience such situations. Details are as follows: Title: Implications of Self-Heating on Performance and Reliability of Confined Geometry Transistors and Integrated Circuits Abstract: The microelectronic industry is in transition. At the device level, short-channel issues have led to the adoption of floating body transistors, and at the system level, ICs with a large number of cores, different operating voltages, and technologies are being mounted on the same board. The floating body transistors, such as FINFET, ETSOI, SOI-FinFET, GAA-FET, may be expensive because the fabrication process is complicated. Also, the floating body geometry increases thermal resistance and self-heating, with the corresponding penalty in reliability and lifetime. Isolated studies of self-heating have been reported, but a comprehensive analysis that compares various technologies in a systematic manner is missing and will be the first focus of this thesis. The heterogeneous integration of ICs defines the second challenge to be discussed in this thesis. Traditionally, high and low-voltage ICs had been separated by optical or inductive couplers. The area and power penalties are too high for modern applications. Innovative solutions involving capacitive voltage dividers – that reuses the backend dielectric stack – have been proposed, but the reliability of these stacks, especially subject to high voltage spikes, is unknown. Towards this goal, we use our broad collaboration with industry and academia to develop a comprehensive conceptual framework for these two end-of-the-roadmap reliability challenges. Specially, in this thesis we explore the emerging reliability challenges from a single transistor to ICs. We will (i) identify the performance and reliability issues with the floating body transistors, (ii) analyze the self-heating issues by the electrical and optical characterizations for mapping heat transfers in the transistor, (iii) develop new reliability models accounting for the self-heating, (iv) predict implications of the self-heating in Ge CMOS technologies by the digital circuit simulation, (v) provide solutions to suppress the self-heating in the floating body transistor, and (iv) take a look reliability concerns with intermetal level. NANODAYS Purdue's Birck Nanotechnology Center has an exciting volunteer opportunity for students in the technical, education, and management fields. Participants will have the opportunity to: · Gain professional experience explaining scientific concepts to people from non-technical backgrounds. · Support the future of STEM programs by introducing grade schoolers and high school students to the miniscule world of atoms, molecules, and nanoscale forces. · Participate with other students/researchers in a nationwide festival celebrating nanotechnology science and education. Since 2010, the Birck Nanotechnology Center at Discovery Park has participated in NISE NanoDays, a program that promotes science and technology education nationwide. Volunteers will staff activity stations and assist visitors as they investigate different scientific concepts. Some example activities for 2017 include static electricity, DNA, and ultraviolet light. No prior knowledge is required to volunteer, just an enthusiasm for science and science education. Local vendors will be providing food for volunteer training and all three days of the event. Dear all, We have been having troubles lately with appliances, dishes, food, containers and trash being left on the kitchen counter and sink. Please note that I check the kitchen every weekday morning at 8am. If anything is left on the counters or in the sink it will be thrown out.
