Tote Dividers
Beginning this week the Supply Store here at Birck is carrying dividers for cleanroom storage totes. These dividers are used to separate and maximize space in the gray storage bins and can be purchased from Lorraine Fox during her office hours.
Feel free to direct any concerns or questions about the tote rack policy changes to Sean Rinehart at srinehar(a)purdue.edu<mailto:srinehar@purdue.edu>.
Important Grad Office Notices:
1. In an effort to make Birck look its best we would like to dedicate 4 weeks this summer, 1 week for each grad hallway, to be a cleanup week!
What does this mean?? Each grad hallway will be designated a week starting June 26th and ending July 28th to clean up their offices; get rid of trash, old boxes, old files, electronics, appliances, etc. Our janitorial staff will put trash and recycling bins outside of your offices the week your hallway is assigned to do cleanup! Also during your assigned week, you can put any unused electronics (computers, monitors) and appliances (small refrigerators, coffee makers) in the hallway and our janitorial staff will take them away to be sent to Purdue surplus!
Please work with your office mates to get your area cleaned up and looking nice! We will be checking on progress during these weeks to see if there is anything, we can help with/give advice on. If you have any questions on something should go or not, please feel free to ask!
The schedule for each hallways cleanup week is below, let's make Birck look the best it can!!
* July 10th - 14th
* West Wing 1st floor hallway: Offices: BRK 1226, BRK 1230, BRK 1234, BRK 1238, and BRK 1287

Flex Update:
* Flex remains on 6-day work schedules. Typical hours are 7:00am-3:30pm, with some work extending to 5:30pm.
PVIL Update:
* HV shutdown is this Saturday, June 24. This will be a 6-10 hour shut down and three crews and is including shut down of the West and South Nano Tech parking lots (towing enforced on Saturday 6-24-17). See map below for closed lots locations. The HV shutdown will cause all of PVIL, North of Nimitz, and those facilities North/Northwest of Halsey Drive to have no power. Birck or BIND will still have power.

Scifres users,
Last year was a record year for new cleanroom users, with over one hundred new cleanroom users joining our facility! However, as our cleanroom user base grows, it becomes increasingly difficult to allocate totes for new users. Over the next few months, Birck is going to be adding one hundred new user totes to meet storage demands and accommodate future growth.
The planned tote expansion will also be accompanied by some policy changes in how the space is used:
* Items stored on the tops of tote racks need to be labeled with a valid contact and the current year (2017). Items not labeled appropriately will be removed from the cleanroom and eventually disposed of.
* Glassware will no longer be kept on the top of the tote racks. Either glassware can be stored in user totes or the large glassware bins on the east side of the cleanroom.
Feel free to direct any concerns or questions about the tote rack policy changes to Sean Rinehart at srinehar(a)purdue.edu<mailto:srinehar@purdue.edu>.
MA6 Mask Aligner
The MA6 mask aligner in the cleanroom has an indexing/stage-travel error. We are in contact with field service to help pinpoint the problem, which now appears to be a control board. We are pursuing parts and service to help us get this back online as quickly as possible, but the timing is still uncertain. In the meantime, we have identified a few nearby cleanroom facilities that have a 4" aligner with backside capability:

Important Grad Office Notices:
1. Per fire safety regulations, please do not store any large items on the top shelves in your offices. Large boxes and other material are not covered by the office fire protection sprinkler system and pose a potential combustion source in the event of a fire that would not be extinguished in the event of the sprinklers being activated.
If you have any boxes or other materials stored on the top shelf in your office please remove immediately.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter,

Dear all,
We are moving into the final phase of installing our new ebeam system (JBX-8100FS). Over the past few months we have been exploring the possibility of leaving the VB6 operational while installing the new JEOL system to a different suitable location in order to avoid any down time. This has been successful (thanks mainly to the building facilities and engineering teams at Birck) and the new system will be installed at the front side of the P-Bay. This is the right-corner bay at the front of the cleanroom next to the viewing isle.
JEOL gave us their final approval today after reviewing our relevant facility measurements and completing a final visit yesterday. We have already been preparing the P-bay and expect to finish the room/facilities preparation by beginning of September. The JEOL engineers will come next and finish the installation, calibration, and testing of the new tool within 8 weeks.
Furthermore, we are exploring options for keeping the VB6 operational beyond the installation completion of the JEOL system. Once we have additional information, we will update everyone.
We will be discussing more on these in the upcoming faculty meeting.
Thanks
Dimitri
P.S. Here is a relevant news release from JEOL: http://www.jeolusa.com/NEWS-EVENTS/Press-Releases/ID/383/JEOL-Introduces-Wo…. It has a picture of the tool and links to its main specifications.
