Chairs Parking User Survey Chairs If you move any conference room chair you need to put it back in the correct room when finished. Parking On Monday, November 10th 20 parking spaces will be reserved for the Pet Bird Workshop. User Survey Electron Beam Lithography One user asked about modifying the VB6 databases. We have been monitoring them over time as the electron gun experiences normal drift and degradation. The total dose is still controlled, but the gun has changed enough to warrant new databases being created. When the video issue is resolved on the system and it stabilizes, Bill will undertake the tasks of creating new databases for the present gun performance. At some point in the future a new gun will be required, but this is probably at least 6 months away. Also, a comment was made that it continues to be difficult to schedule the VB6 because it is under great demand. We track uptime and usage in Coral, and the following plot shows the Raith and VB6 uptime and use percentages for the past 6 months. Please note that, on average, both are used less than 30% of the time. It is helpful if reservations that are made and can't be used to be cancelled in order to free up the systems for other users. [cid:image001.png@01CFF514.DE210250] [cid:image002.png@01CFF514.DE210250] Etch Tools We have had several problems with our etch tools. The AOE lost a turbo pump and other components. The new turbo pump is installed and pulling good vacuum, but the He pressure sensor is now causing problems. We continue to work on this every day with the help of the field service engineer. Until the AOE is brought back online please consider using the Panasonic for your oxide etches. The ASE2 is back online and operational for Si etches. ASE1 has mechanical pump issues and a new chiller is being installed, so please use the ASE2 for now. Thanks for your feedback, and please keep your suggestions and comments coming. Ron

Tour highlights will include: *The Advanced Photon Source (APS)* : provides the brightest high-energy X-ray beams to more than 6,000 scientists each year. *The Argonne Tandem Linac Accelerator System*(ATLAS): the world's first ion accelerator using superconducting devices for the energy gain. *The Nuclear Energy Exhibit:* showcases Argonne's rich heritage in the development of nuclear reactors and its current role in the development of next-generation reactors and fuel cycle technologies. Aims Displays New Staff Member Pumpkin Voting Refrigerator Seminar Survey Travel Workshop Aims Individuals who use GM-AIMS reports will need to access them from the Purdue Employee Portal beginning Oct. 27. Formerly available in the SAP Portal, the reports will be unavailable during an upgrade that begins at 5 pm Oct. 24 and lasts through the weekend. To access the reports after the upgrade, visit the Main Links or Research sections of the Employee Portal, Account Projections will not be affected by the upgrade and will still be accessible via the SAP Portal. Individuals who have questions about this change should call the ITaP Customer Service Center at 44000, or sent an email to itap(a)purdue.edu<mailto:itap@purdue.edu> Displays We have begun to provide equipment updates on the large display next to the pre-gowning area upstairs. We address the down equipment, what the problem is that we're working, and a prediction of bringing it back online. We also put the responsible engineer's name in case you have specific questions you can contact them. Please give us your feedback on whether this type of information provides value to you. New Staff Member Please welcome Dr. Kimberly McDole to the engineering staff! Kim has joined our team as the manager of our brand-new 3-D Cell Culture laboratory that we're setting up in 2087. This promises to be a new and exciting area of research not only for Purdue, but for many researchers beyond our campus! This will give Purdue a capability that is not available many other places in the world, and we're very fortunate to have Kim lead the activity of facilitating this new lab and developing it into a key competency for our center. Kim's office is 1266 . . . stop by and say hello! Pumpkin Voting The voting has started for the best decorated/carved pumpkin. The pumpkins will be on displayed for 1 week. Please stop by the display and vote monetarily for your favorite. The money will be used for fun activities held in Birck. Stockman OSA Purdue Student Chapter Seminar Thursday, November 20th at 1:00 pm in Birck 2001 For more information please visit: https://nanohub.org/groups/bnc/calendar/details/1086 Survey A user suggested we consider putting equipment manuals and process recipes on the Birck website and we agree this is an excellent idea. A searchable central location would be extremely valuable for users who want to compare recipes and/or study equipment operating fundamentals. Today individual tools have process recipes stored in their local microprocessors and users receive training to access the appropriate recipe in the control system of the tool. We have been exploring options for automating the remote storage and retrieval of this type of information because if we manually entered process recipes on the website then we would have two copies (one in the research tool, and one on the website) and it is highly probable that one would be changed independently from the other, which would be problematic. There is a campus-wide team from Business Services, Purchasing, and the Scientific/Engineering community evaluating numerous commercially available software management systems that are designed to manage research operations, both from the business/accounting side and from the tool/scientific side. Approval has been given to select the appropriate system, purchase it for Purdue, and deploy it across all the laboratories on campus. Our goal is to find the right system that can provide automated management of process recipes, parameters, and research equipment manuals. This is a project that will take several months to complete, but will eventually replace Coral as a total laboratory management system with enhanced capabilities. Thanks and keep your suggestions coming! Ron Travel New User Interface Coming to Concur! Concur has been listening to customer feedback for an easier user interface, and in January, 2015, your Concur user interface will be changing. The result is a fully redesigned Concur Home Page, Expense Page, and a new Approvals Page. The redesign gives a much more modern look, and updates to the user interface have been designed to minimize the screens needed to accomplish necessary tasks. Some of the significant changes are: 1. The "My Concur" homepage has been fully redesigned with a "work to zero" quick task bar across the top. This bar gives the users quick access to their most important tasks. [concur1.jpg] 2. A fully redesigned "Expense" page. New "tiles" make it easy to see the name, amount, status and comments of expense reports. All smart expenses also appear on this page. Access to the Receipt Store is available on the Expense page. [concur2.jpg] 3. A new "Approvals" page for those whose main responsibility is fiscal approver. It will list all items that require approval, such as cash advances and expense reports. An approver task bar gives a quick view of outstanding items waiting for approval.
