Dear All, Finally our 3 days of NanoDays event is starting from today. This year we're expecting to have more than 850 participants, including over 130 registered volunteers! In that respect, I offer my heartiest thanks to you all for your kind support! On behalf of NanoDays team, I'd like to invite you all and your family to NanoDays in the evening today, April 13th, 6-8pm. This evening is particularly arranged for the Birck families and Girls scouts. If you can't make it today then please plan to stop by sometime either on Thursday or Friday between 9am and 2pm. BNC E-news for the week of April 11th

Cleanroom Cameras The camera server that controls the cleanroom cameras has had a problem for some time now. We tried to repair the server unsuccessfully, and we have tried to redeploy a different server without success. Our next step is to procure a new server with new camera software and re-initialize the complete system. Our engineer Jerry Shepard is leading this project and we anticipate this to conclude sometime this summer. We will keep the user community updated as we make progress. Air handling systems, exhaust systems, hazardous gas delivery, and monitoring systems will be down beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, May 2 through 4 p.m. Friday, May 6. The BNC staff will be performing appropriate preventive maintenance on the process equipment at this time as well. All CLEANROOM research work will be suspended until the maintenance activities are completed and all systems are returned to normal. No one will be allowed to enter the cleanroom during this time period. In addition, the laboratory areas will also be affected by this systems maintenance. As such, all LABORATORY activities that involve exhausted hoods, vacuum systems, and/or toxic gas systems will be down beginning 7 a.m. Monday, May 2 through 4 p.m. Friday, May 6. No chemical work will be allowed during this period. It is anticipated that the building and most process tool maintenance will be completed by the end of the day on Friday, May 6. Please check Coral for equipment status and availability. For long term research planning please refer the following future dates for our future preventive maintenance shutdowns. Flex Lab Construction - Important Update

All - First, parking in the fenced area at Flex Lab is for construction purposes only. Unauthorized cars may be locked in for the night, or towed away. There is currently an unauthorized vehicle parked within the fenced construction area. Pepper was forced to lock the site up at 3:30PM. If anyone knows who the car belongs to, please let them know they can contact Purdue PD for access to the site. Second, the hours have changed for the demolition work. The contractor will be working 7:00 am - 5:30 pm. Again, this work will continue for approximately two more weeks. Finally, some details on the construction work. Tomorrow, Friday, the second building will be demolished. It is not likely that this will cause vibration excursions, but that is a possibility. Following that work, there will be work cleaning up debris. This is highly unlikely to cause any vibrations in the BNC. Following this work, on April 18, demolition of the foundation and slab of each building will begin. This is the most likely work to cause vibration issues, so please plan your work accordingly. Vibration Alert - Demolition of Housing south of the BNC

I was notified today that the demolition of two buildings behind (south of) the BNC will begin tomorrow. This is part of the Flex Lab project that was announced a couple of weeks ago. The demolition is expected to continue for approximately 3 weeks. The contractor will be working from 7:00 am until 3:30 pm. It is possible that the BNC may experience vibration during this demolition process. Please be aware of this possibility and organize your work accordingly.
