Dear BNC Users, Due to the planned Birck Nanotechnology building shutdowns scheduled for the middle and end of October 2018, we will need to complete a series of short interruptions of building systems to prepare for the major shutdowns planned for the week of October 15th and October 30th. This interruption involves the WEST LAB WING ONLY for this coming Thursday (Sep 27, 2018) from 7:30AM - 8:30AM we will be shutting down all fume hoods and wet chemical process to install temporary power needed for the October shutdown. You may notice that all the fume hood exhaust alarms going off indicating that it is UNSAFE to use the fume hoods at the time. 3D Cell Culture Training Workshop - October 11 & 12 2018 - 2nd Announcement

Dear Fellow Scientists, The 3D3C workshop on basic 3D cell culture techniques is scheduled on October 11 & 12, 2018. The workshop will cover some basic techniques for work with tumors or other types of tissues that require the formation of masses or spheroids. The prerequisites to attend the workshop are sufficient knowledge in standard (2D) cell culture techniques, REM biosafety training and blood-borne-pathogen training. The course fee for the workshop is $350 (see flyer attached for more information). The registration deadline is September 21 2018. Hello everyone, One of the things which NSAC is focusing this year is to improve the sports participation of people from Birck. We would like to know people who are interested in playing any sports as a recreational activity and also if they want to participate in the intramurals held at Purdue for which NSAC will fund the registration fee. We would like to get response from everyone (including postdocs, professors, grad students and staff ) to see who all are interested in different sports. You don't need to be very good at any sports, we all are just playing for fun. Air handling systems, exhaust systems, toxic gas delivery, and monitoring systems will be down beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, October 15 through 4 p.m. Friday, October 19. The BNC staff will be performing appropriate preventive maintenance on the process equipment at this time as well. All CLEANROOM research work will be suspended until the maintenance activities are completed and all systems are returned to normal. Only authorized personnel will be allowed to enter the cleanroom during this time period. In addition, the laboratory areas will also be affected by this systems maintenance. As such, all LABORATORY activities that involve exhausted hoods, vacuum systems, and/or toxic gas systems will be down beginning 7 a.m. Monday, October 15 through 4 p.m. Friday, October 19. However, work that involves taking standard electrical measurements may be carried out in the LABS provided that fluctuating air temperature and humidity do not affect the readings. No chemical work will be allowed during this period. It is anticipated that the building and process tool maintenance will be completed by the end of the day on Friday, October 19. Please check iLabs for equipment status and availability. For long term research planning please refer the following future dates for our future preventive maintenance shutdowns. Week of April 29, 2019 Week of Oct 14, 2019 Week of May 4, 2020 Week of Oct 19, 2020 Thank you for your cooperation and understanding during these important preventive maintenance shutdowns. REMINDER: The card swipes for BRK 1269 have disabled in preparation for FEI to run tests. They will be running the tests throughout this week and ask that NO ONE try to enter the room with either a card or key. If you have any questions, please let Mary Jo know. Office Chairs - bad casters

We have some office chairs that people are bringing into the building to use. That is fine, unless you have the wrong casters on the chairs. Casters that are made for carpet will tear up a linoleum floor. We are stripping and waxing offices right now. If your chair is missing after, please come and see me. I have had to remove it due to the fact that you have the wrong kind of casters on the chair. Sorry for the inconvience!
