This will be used in Purdue’s 150th Anniversary Event "Conference of the Future" in Fall 2019 and will be displayed at Birck Atrium and through brochures and social media. We know that many of you create beautiful images in your labs, cleanroom and simulation every day. Send us the most eye-catching figures from your work for a chance to gain higher visibility. Also research samples or other demonstrations that can highlight latest advances in your groups will be placed in the display at the Birck Atrium. You can see some examples in the current displays. Top three winners for best images and top three research displays will receive $300 /$200 /$100 cash rewards each. Winners may also be invited to write a Newsletter article about the work behind the research. This will require a shutdown of our building systems to reduce chilled water demand on the campus chilled water system. During the same time we will complete the install of a new Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) that supports critical research equipment. Users with critical equipment on the UPS system will be notified with a special notification. Attached are details about the shutdown. SMART industry meeting, Storytelling competition

Prior to his career in venture capital, John was an entrepreneur, initially at Paradigm Genetics, where he joined as a visiting scientist before becoming Chief Science Officer and eventually President and CEO following the company's IPO. After Paradigm, John founded and served as CEO of Arête Therapeutics, which earned backing from leading life science venture firms. John started his career in academia, rising to the rank of Full Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Purdue University, where he earned the David and Lucille Packard Fellow award in 1989. John received a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. from the University of Windsor and a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of California, Davis. They participate as a member of the team in a science storytelling seminar, learn how to create a scientific story, and prepare written and spoken presentations, which are judged for selection in a live, Shark Tank Competition. Run by a group of talented professional communicators, the competition awards prizes and, most important, will offer the participants a chance to work with one of the sharks to refine their story and release it to the general public through a specialized media campaign. Greetings all, this afternoon's Fab Forum will open with equipment status updates, follow with Dr. Tony Cofer from Prof. Alina Alexeenko's group talking about successes and struggles with their Film Evaporation MEMS Tunable Array (FEMTA) - Heater Liftoff Lithography, and then open up for Open Forum discussion. Tony's challenging process involves lithography and metallization on sloped features. While this pushes what is possible with standard fabrication techniques, challenges such as gap fill, adhesion, and lift-off quality are similar to issues other groups are currently seeing or have seen in the past. Please stop by if you're able to share your experience or to get ideas for how to solve your current problems. Cell Culture Basics Training Workshop - November 29 & 30 2018 - 2nd Announcement

Dear Fellow Scientists, The 3D3C workshop on basic cell culture techniques is scheduled on November 29 & 30, 2018. Participation in the workshops requires having REM biosafety training and blood borne pathogen training. The course fee for the workshop is $250 (see flyer attached for more information). Bement Jr. Distinguished Lecture at 1:30 p.m. He is receiving the award for his field-defining work in synthesizing and applying novel electronic materials to achieve record device performance. All workshop participants will be certified as “science storytellers” upon completing and submitting a communication pitch about a group project.
