[NanoDays: The Biggest Event for the Smallest Science]<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSedFkdKYdqxFP2YGKbkeWTY06lVI6Yh9uG…> Purdue's Birck Nanotechnology Center has an exciting volunteer opportunity for students! Participants will have the opportunity to: * Gain professional experience explaining scientific concepts to people from non-technical backgrounds. * Support the future of STEM programs by introducing grade schoolers and high school students to the miniscule world of atoms, molecules, and nanoscale forces. * Participate with other students/researchers in a nationwide festival celebrating nanotechnology science and education. Since 2010, the Birck Nanotechnology Center at Discovery Park has participated in NISE NanoDays, a program that promotes science and technology education nationwide. Volunteers will staff activity stations and assist visitors as they investigate different scientific concepts. Some example activities for 2017 include static electricity, DNA, and ultraviolet light. No prior knowledge is required to volunteer, just an enthusiasm for science and science education. Volunteers can attend any or all of the available shifts (04/03/19 - 04/05/19). Free NanoDays T-shirt and food will be provided to Volunteers. Training is mandatory and will be provided in the Birck atrium on Tuesday, 04/02/19. A pizza party will be held from 5:00 PM to 5:30 PM, training will follow from 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM, and unstructured familiarization with the activities can be done from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Cell Culture Basics Training Workshop - March 21 & 22 2019

Participation in the workshops requires having REM biosafety training and blood borne pathogen training. The course fee for the workshop is $250 (see flyer attached for more information). Update: BNC Fab Forum cancelled today

Greetings all, due to the power issues in BNC, Fab Forum will be cancelled today/this week. We'll resume next Monday, Feb. 11, at 1 PM in the BNC atrium. NOTICE - Birck Nanotechnology Center - All Lab & Cleanroom Operations are Down

All Users, We have had a major failure of one of the buildings main power feeds to the center that controls all of our general lab and cleanroom HVAC system. The general lab and cleanroom space temperatures and humidity is completely out of control with the temperatures heating up to 5° to 10° F over set point. Please shut off all research equipment that is sensitive to high temperatures. All toxic gases will be shut down as well. This is the first time we have experience anything like this so it is unsure when the power will be restored. Until further notice all Lab and cleanroom research will be shut down. Air handling systems, exhaust systems, toxic gas delivery, and monitoring systems will be down beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday, February 5 through 4 p.m. Friday, February 8. All CLEANROOM research work will be suspended until all repairs to the critical power systems are completed and all systems are returned to normal. Only authorized personnel will be allowed to enter the cleanroom during this time period. In addition, the laboratory areas will also be affected by this critical repair. As such, all LABORATORY activities that involve exhausted hoods, vacuum systems, and/or toxic gas systems will be down beginning 7 a.m. Tuesday, February 5 through 4 p.m. Friday, February 8. However, work that involves taking standard electrical measurements may be carried out in the LABS provided that fluctuating air temperature and humidity do not affect the readings. No chemical work will be allowed during this period. It is anticipated that the building repairs will be completed by the end of the day on Friday, February 8. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding during this important critical repair.
