Hello Everyone, I would like to let you know that the ChE Safety Committee will two new graduate student members: Mark Koeper from Dr. Agrawal's research group and Viktor Cybulskis from Dr. Ribeiro's research group. Both Mark and Viktor will start their service on June 1st and they will replace Erik Sheets, who served on the Safety Committee for two years. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Erik for all his help and input as a safety committee member and to welcome Mark and Viktor on the Safety Committee; I look forward to working with them in the future! New Graduate Program Secretary: Amy Maus

Hello Everyone, I'm writing to introduce the new Graduate Program Secretary, Amy Maus. Amy joined the School of Chemical Engineering this past Monday. She comes to us from St. Petersburg, Florida, where she was the Corporate Office Manager and Director of Operations for ICA Franchising. Amy also recently worked as a Client Service Professional for H & R Block, and she has worked in bank administration deposit operations for Lafayette Bank and Trust. She brings several years of clerical and administrative experience to this position, and she has family in the Lafayette/West Lafayette area. ERA inspection

Hello Everyone, I want to share with you that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was on campus yesterday and inspected two labs in FRNY (rooms 1190 and 2184) for compliance with hazardous waste regulations and found no violations. Everything was in excellent condition. Thank you for your continuous support in maintaining safety at a high standard and compliance with safety regulations in our laboratories! Spring Fling mail schedule (May 22)

FYI..... No afternoon mail service, special pickup at select buildings May 22 Due to Spring Fling activities, there will be no afternoon mail pickup or delivery on May 22. However, all morning delivery and pick-up times will be normal. A special pickup at 10:30 a.m. will collect all campus and U.S. mail, parcels, and FedEx or UPS shipments at the following buildings: * Animal Disease Diagnostic Lab. * Lynn Hall. * Lilly Hall. * Agricultural Administration Building. * Freehafer Hall. * Krannert Building. * Young Hall. * Stewart Center. * Beering Hall. * Wetherill Laboratory. * Hovde Hall. * Schleman Hall. * Pfendler Hall. * Mathematical Sciences Building. * Purdue Memorial Union. Cleaning window blinds

BE ADVISED - Starting today, Wednesday 14th, the blind shop will be coming into the building to clean the window blinds. They will remove the blinds then take them to south campus to clean and then return to reinstall. Overview of safety incidents in FRNY during the 2013-2014 academic year

Hello Everyone, As the end of the academic year approaches, I would like to update you on the safety incidents/accidents we had in our School in this academic year. 2012-2013 was a "safety incidents free" year, but in 2013-2014 we had 4 reported incidents. Please find attached a document highlighting a summary of the incidents and the measures taken in order to prevent such unpleasant experiences in the future. Should an accident or incident occur in your lab/office, please let me know as soon as it happens, so we can work together in completing all required steps and report the incident to REM to comply with Purdue regulations. I also need to keep a copy of the incident report on file. All accidents or incidents need to be reported to REM using the "First Report of Injury" (FROI) Form located on REM's website: https://www.purdue.edu/rem/home/forms/froi.pdf. You can find the instructions on how fill in the FROI form at the following link: http://www.purdue.edu/rem/injury/froi.htm. The supervisor will also need to fill in the "Supervisor's accident investigation form" (https://www.purdue.edu/rem/home/forms/saif.pdf ); this is meant to identify the root cause of the accident, so that a relevant corrective action can be taken/implemented. In addition, I would like to ask you to bring to my attention the near-misses you experience in your lab or office. I would like to develop a database that could be used as a safety resource in preventing a near miss become an accident. In the future, I plan on sharing these safety incidents with you as soon as I have all the information needed, rather than waiting to compile all of them in an "End of Year Report". Should you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. His PhD degree is from ETH-Zurich (2000) and he is currently a Senior researcher there - his CV is attached fyi. This is not a required seminar for graduate students.
