COVID-19: New reporting procedures for illness

Dear Purdue ChE Community, Please see the attached document that was shared with me yesterday; it contains important information, step-by-step guidance compiled by the Purdue Public Health Emergency Task Force, on what steps have to be taken if ill individuals are encountered in a campus facility, like our building. These new step-by step-instructions are different from the instructions provided by the Provost last week and shared with us by Dr. Kim, Head of School, through email (see attached). Please disregard the old reporting procedure, which required having a liaison between each unit and the University (I was the liaison between our School and CoE/University), and use the new guidelines outlined in the attached document. Interested students must be available to attend the full program. Students must be nominated by their school using the attached form. The College of Engineering will list nominees by school ranking and order received and submit to the Krannert AMP program for final selection. At this time, we are still planning to hold our August 3-7 session. We will move all PhD nominations that we have already received to the August class. In light of the current priorities for the university, we are extending the PhD nomination deadline to June 1, 2020. Program Details Gain a wealth of knowledge and new skills in just five days, Monday through Friday. Although there are no graded assignments or exams in the program, participants prepare readings, cases, problem sets, and related homework to bring out key ideas. * Date: August 3-7, 2020 * Location: Krannert Center for Executive Education (KCTR) on Purdue’s West Lafayette campus * Discounted Program Fee for Purdue PhD students: $1850, which includes program instruction and materials, and daily breakfast and lunch for networking Nominations The Dean of each College/School is invited to nominate PhD students for our 2020 programs. Dear ChE Staff, On behalf of the School Head Dr. Kim and the Executive Officer Dr. Corti, the Davidson School of Chemical Engineering will be holding a town hall for all staff to join via WebEx (info found below) on Wednesday, March 25 at 2:00 p.m. ET. In this town hall, the School will address the current state of affairs regarding the CoViD-19 plan for our School and how it relates to usual operations as well as any related questions. The ChE Business Office will also be available to answer questions. Prior to this town hall, please submit any and all questions you would like discussed to Jennifer Merzdorf (jmerzdo(a)purdue.edu<mailto:jmerzdo@purdue.edu>) by 11:00 a.m. ET on Wednesday, March 25. Jennifer will serve as the moderator, who is charged with sorting and grouping those questions for the School's review. Steam Shutdown

BE ADVISED - Tomorrow , 3-19-20 , we will be one of numerous buildings on the north end of campus that will have the steam shut off so they can install a main valve that needs to be repaired. This shut down will start at 6 am Thursday and last until Friday afternoon. High pressure steam, hot water and heating will be affected by this work. The building will maintain its temperature for a period of time but will drop gradually since outside air will continue to come in and temps are expected to be in the 60's. Since policy has dictated that most are not here this week, hopefully this will have little affect on the majority of our occupants but for those still around please take any necessary precautions that are needed. Without the onset of large-scale testing, the duration of these self-isolation policies may be longer than the original estimates. Both the spread of the virus and the responses to mitigate that spread (PK-12 school closings, day care closings, etc.) have an impact on our Purdue community. As indicated in communications last week, our campus remains open and we will be offering remote instruction until at least April 3. To assist with social distancing and to diminish transmission of the disease, we will be allowing telecommuting/remote work on a temporary basis for all positions where such work is possible, whenever such work is possible (including research functions).
