Hello everyone, This is a reminder that the safety self-audit forms for all labs and offices in FRNY are due next week on Wednesday, June 7, 2017. Please conduct the safety self-audit for your work area (one form per each lab, one form for each office/office suite) and complete the form. Please have the forms signed by the supervisor/PI. These reviews are part of our Integrated Safety Plan (ISP) and are required to obtain our annual recertification with the University. The safety audit of multiple offices can be inventoried on the same form. The timeline for 2017 is: - May - June - self-audits of all laboratories and offices - June - Safety inspections of all ChE laboratories and offices - May - July - address deficiencies identified in self-audits and inspections - August - Recertification Review meeting with REM 1. Self-Audits: The ISP Self-Audit checklist can be found on the ChE School's website, under the "Laboratory Safety Requirements" heading: https://engineering.purdue.edu/ChE/aboutus/safety , or on the REM's website: https://www.purdue.edu/ehps/rem/home/forms/ispcheck.pdf The first seven sections have universal questions that apply to every area. Sections 8 to 27 have questions related to specialized operations; research laboratories and shops should address all sections. All self-audit checklists must be signed by PI/supervisor, not necessarily by the person completing the self-audit. Please return completed self-audits to Gabriela Nagy in FRNY G041D by 5 pm on Wednesday, June 7, 2017. In addition to the self-audit, please review and update the door posting, hazard assessment (should be placed inside the lab, near the entrance), chemical inventory (Form HCP4) and employee exposure list (Form HCP5) and lab specific Chemical Hygiene Plan for your work area. They should be accurate and dated within the last six months. If your group is keeping SDSs saved electronically, please make sure you follow the recommendations issued by the safety committee that are listed HERE<https://engineering.purdue.edu/ChE/aboutus/safety/documents/Guidelines%20fo…>. 2. Inspections: The ChE Safety Committee will perform unannounced safety inspections of all laboratories and offices during June, and will send the inspection reports to the faculty responsible for those areas. 3. Deficiencies: Deficiencies identified in your audits and in the ChE Safety Committee inspections will need to be addressed. The ChE Safety Committee (list posted on https://engineering.purdue.edu/ChE/aboutus/safety ) is available to help you. 4. Recertification Review: The review includes unscheduled visits to our laboratories and offices by REM. The recertification review meeting with REM is scheduled for August 15, 2017. United Way

We are kicking off the campaign with a book drive to benefit the Kindergarten Countdown Camp. We need your help! Kindergarten Countdown Camp is a free 3-4 week summer camp designed to help children with little to no preschool experience begin their first year of school prepared to learn. At the end of each week, each student has the opportunity to select a new book to take home, share with their family as they create their own personal library. Our goal is to collect 2,000 new or gently used books appropriate for children age 4-7 by June 30th, and with your support we know we can! Help make a difference in a young person's life! FYI from Materials Distribution, there will only be a morning pickup/delivery this Thursday: Materials Distribution Services will not be running the regularly scheduled afternoon run on Thursday (May 25) so employees can attend Spring Fling. Special info session on ISP recertification and completion of self-audit forms - TODAY

Good morning, This is a reminder that the special info session on the upcoming ISP recertification of our School, with emphasis on how to correctly complete the self-audit forms, is TODAY, from 12-1 pm in FRNY B124. Please bring with you a self-audit form (completed if you already completed it) and all the questions you have regarding the self-audit and ISP process. New safety Committee members

Hello Everyone, I am glad to announce that at the ChE Safety Committee's recommendation, Dr. Kim appointed Claire Nimlos (working with Dr. Gounder) and Swapnil Deshmukh (working with Dr. Agrawal) to serve as graduate student members on the ChE Safety Committee for the next two years. Their appointment will commence on June 1, 2017. At the same time, I would like to thank Jennifer Laster and Ravi Joshi for their exemplary service on the safety committee over the last two years. Their effort and input in the safety committee work helped increase the safety culture in our School! Jennifer and Ravi will continue to serve on the safety committee until the start of the 2017 fall semester, and they will actively participate in the safety committee's activities dedicated to the ISP recertification of our School.
