All: On February 20-21, in conjunction with the festivities surrounding the College of Engineering's celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Distinguished Engineering Alumni awards, the School of Chemical Engineering will be hosting two separate receptions in the Henson Atrium where cake and punch will be served. I hope you are able to attend! On February 20th, we will honor Jay (BSChE '74) and Cynthia Ihlenfeld, who will be receiving the President's Council's Distinguished Pinnacle Award. Cristina Farmus

Dear Colleagues, With very mixed emotions, I am writing to inform that Cristina Farmus has accepted a position as Senior Policy Associate with the Office of Global Affairs. Her start date is November 14 - she'll be there most of November 14 and 15, but work half-time in ChE and OGA for the following two weeks, until November 27. Cristina joined our School in July 2004 as the Business Manager and served admirably in this role for four years. Since September 2008, she has served as the first Administrative Director for our School. This was a new position created to address a wide range of administrative needs in ChE. In this capacity, she has overseen essentially all non-academic aspects related to operating our School: finances, facilities, staff, computer network, corporate relations, marketing, and strategic plan implementation. She has defined the Administrative Director position and has performed in an exemplary manner in all her activities. In addition to her regular duties, Cristina undertook many other tasks. She was a member of the Centennial Planning Committee and helped to organize all the School Centennial activities in 2011. Among many tasks, she worked with co-authors Phil Wankat and Nicholas Peppas to issue a new edition of our School's history book, titled "100 Years of Chemical Engineering at Purdue University, 1911-2011." During this process, a new book project emerged, and thus a coffee table style book was published "A Pictorial History of the School of Chemical Engineering at Purdue University, 1911-2011" for which Cristina is a co-author along with Phil Wankat. Cristina was a member of ChE Strategic Planning Committee in 2009, whose charge was to define the 2010-2014 ChE Strategic Plan and assess its progress - she has led the latter process since its inception. She is also a member of the ChE Industrial Advisory Council (IAC), handles all communications related to the IAC and coordinates all the School's corporate relations. For her extraordinary work, she received the CoE New Employee Excellence Award in 2005. In addition, she received the 2012 CoE Leadership Award for staff members. Cristina has performed at a superb level in all her activities. She has been absolutely central for our School's operation for many years but is now interested in broadening her background, which is understandable. She has worked closely with me and helped me tremendously to do my own job. I know that I speak for all of us that her professionalism and positive attitude in all her activities will be sorely missed by all. Pl join me in wishing Cristina the very best for the future. Equipment information - how to find what you need and dispose of what is no longer useful

Equipment needed for limited use This is a quick reminder on how to search for equipment you may need for limited use in your research. On the ChE intranet at https://engineering.purdue.edu/Intranet/Groups/Schools/ChE there is an Excel list with all equipment available in the College of Engineering. Search for the item you need and once you find something useful contact the person listed in column H, as the person who may give you permission to use that specific item. Please remember that access to equipment purchased and maintained by someone else is at the discretion of the responsible person, and also extend the same courtesy when someone else asks to use your equipment. Equipment no longer useful When you have a piece of equipment that you no longer need, please fill out an Equipment Change in Status form and hand it to our Building Deputy, Jeff Valley. Equipment in good, useable condition will be advertised within our School first, then to the entire University; equipment no longer useable (junk) can be disposed of immediately. This process can be used for all research/lab equipment, but also for computers, printers and other obsolete electronics. New Communications Specialist for our School

Dear Colleagues, I am pleased to introduce our newest staff member - Kay Hagen, as the Communications Specialist for the School of Chemical Engineering. Her responsibilities include newsletters, brochures, website updates, building display cases, annual report, posters, the yet to be installed touch screen/Kiosk, and any other marketing materials our School needs. She will also be responsible for the communications part of ChE 435 - the senior design laboratory. Kay comes with great experience in communications. She worked as Communications Coordinator in the College of Veterinary Medicine from 2006 to 2011; prior to that she was a news writer for Purdue, focusing on Extension Offices for four years. Most recently she has worked as an independent graphic designer. Kay comes to us with great design and marketing experience and has built an impressive portfolio of articles, publications and displays. Kay started in our School this Monday, her position is half time and her office hours will be Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday from 8.30 am to 2.30 pm. Under this agreement, Xerox will operate the Purdue Print Center with the goal to reduce costs, improve productivity and enhance services for the campus community. The operational changeover will occur Feb. 3. This agreement builds on a 40-year relationship with Xerox, which has served as a technology vendor. The 16 Purdue employees affected by this transition have been offered and have accepted on-campus positions with Xerox. As Xerox begins to manage the Print Center operations, current clients of Printing Services should continue conducting printing service business as usual. In addition, the BoilerCopyMaker Center located in the Purdue Memorial Union will remain open with the same services, under the operation of Xerox. The new Xerox arrangement will be announced to the full West Lafayette campus in the Thursday, Jan. 30, issue of Purdue Today. As you know, operating expenses that outpaced revenue prompted the analysis of the university-owned operations at the West Lafayette campus. The review determined that advancements in both technologies and service delivery models would allow for more enhanced support services to the university community. With this agreement, the university will pay an average of 10 percent to 15 percent less for printing services over previous pricing. What you need to know now: * The job submission process will remain the same until complete integration with the Xerox managed print center. Continue to request printing services jobs by calling 765-494-2006. * Additional information will be provided as Xerox assesses current operations and begins to shift workloads, update service offerings and address the job submission processes. * The BoilerCopyMaker will remain open in Purdue Memorial Union. * Additional information will be provided via List 39, Purdue Today and direct communication from the Purdue Print Center.
