We have invited Dr. Sydney Hollingshead (an alumna of the department) from Cook Biotech. Inc. to talk about safety involving process scale-up as pertinent to the medical device industry. We believe this is a good opportunity for the Purdue ChE Department to broaden our safety perspective by witnessing some of the safety considerations involved in this industry. ChE Safety Committee Openings for Graduate Students

Hello Everyone! Mihit Parekh, Kaustabh Sarkar and Kyle Weideman have served for nearly two years as graduate students on our ChE Safety Committee, and I want to take this opportunity to thank them for all their outstanding contributions as valuable members of our Safety Committee. The ChE Safety Committee has now three (3) openings for graduate students. We would like to have every experimental research area represented on the safety committee, and are looking for three enthusiastic, motivated and safety oriented graduate students to join our active Safety Committee. An ideal candidate is someone who completed their first year of graduate studies, and who performs research in a lab. Typically, graduate students serve as members of the ChE Safety Committee for a period of two years. We would like the new members to join us this summer, as trainees, and then with full responsibilities from August 2021. Some of the Safety Committee members responsibilities are: * attend the safety committee meetings and actively participate in discussions and committee activities (once a month) * report unsafe conditions and unsafe practices/acts * assist in addressing safety issues/concerns * contribute with ideas and suggestions for improvement of safety in our School * follow safety procedures and rules and be an example for others for work safely * help with the safety inspections throughout the year, and with preparations for the ISP Recertification Review with REM * help investigating safety incidents, if necessary * share safety information with colleagues, etc. If you know someone who you think would be a good member of the safety committee, or if you feel this would be a good fit for you, please send your nomination or intent to join, and a short supporting statement/justification describing why you or your nominee should be considered for this opening, by email to: Gabriela Nagy: nagyg(a)purdue.edu<mailto:nagyg@purdue.edu>, by 5 pm on Monday, May 10, 2021.
