For those that want to make a pledge to the campaign, the ePledge site will not be able to accept payroll deductions after that date. College/Unit Fundraisers coming up: A LOT OF AWESOME EVENTS! HELP SPREAD THE WORD! * College of Veterinary Medicine is hosting 2 events: o Pumpkin Decorating Content - entries due on Mon, Oct. 17. Pumpkins on display from Oct. 18-20. Puppy Cuddles for United Way - Wed, Nov. 2 from 1-3pm at Lynn Hall Courtyard. * Marketing & Media are in the midst of PENNY WARS! From Oct. 4 - 21. * ITaP will be hosting a bake sale on Thurs, Oct. 13 - Fri, Oct. 14 in various locations, including MATH, YOUNG and ROSS buildings * Zumbathon - Wed, Oct. 26 at 5:30 pm at Co-Rec. Get on your dancing shoes and support the United Way campaign!!! Open to everyone, including the community. Bring your friends and family! * Student Life is hosting a spooky walking tour on Oct. 28 from 7pm - 11pm of campus highlighting true events from Purdue's rich historical past. Tours run every 30 minutes and will start from the lobby in Stewart Center. A donation of $5.00 is admission for tour. Ticket sales and more details coming soon! * College of Education Silent Auction is OPEN - the CoE team is hosting a silent auction. There are lots of fun and practical items for bidding. Keep checking as they add more items to the auction often. Building Temp

Be Advised - You have probably noticed the temp in the building is warmer than normal. There is a major project going on outside in the tunnel and the chilled water supplies to Physics and our building has been shut down to install valves and meters. It is being done since it is October Break and with the idea that the outside temp would offset no chilled water. I have contacted Zones to see if they can adjust to get it cooler. The chilled water is not scheduled to be turned back on until this afternoon or in the morning. Thanks.

Dauenhauer Dept. of Chemical Engineering & Materials Science University of Minnesota "New Approaches to Big Chemistry and Biomass" Tuesday, October 4, 2016 3:00 - 4:15 p.m. FRNY G140 Reception at 2:30 p.m. in Henson Atrium Abstract: Thermochemical conversion of lignocellulosic biomass utilizes high temperature chemical decomposition to produce liquids via pyrolysis, solids via torrefaction, or gases via gasification which are subsequently converted to liquid biofuels or biochemicals. However, these systems are comprised of thousands of molecules and millions of chemical reactions within three phases, making them intractable by conventional research techniques. In this seminar, three new research techniques are introduced including PHASR (Pulse-Heated Analysis of Solid/Surface Reactions), the Universal Carbon Detector (UCD), and DRiSP (Diffuse Reflectance in situ Spectroscopy of Particles) which enable the first molecular-level measurements of the millisecond kinetics of complex reacting systems. Bio: Paul J. Dauenhauer is the DuPont Young Professor and Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Minnesota. He serves as Co-Director of the Catalysis Center for Energy Innovation. He received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin Madison and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. He worked for the Dow Chemical Company as a Senior Research Engineer in Midland, MI, and Freeport, TX. His work on catalysis and reaction engineering of renewable feedstocks has been highlighted by numerous awards including the DOE Early Career, NSF CAREER, the Rutherford Aris Excellence in Reaction Engineering Award, and the Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award. His is the co-founder of Sironix Renewables and inventor of the flagship technology for Activated Research Company.
