Dear Colleagues, I am deeply saddened to inform that Prof. Lyle Albright (born May 3, 1921) passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec 27 at his apartment in the Westminster Health Care facility. He receive all his degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan: BS (1943), MS (1944), PhD (1950). Following a few years on the ChE faculty at the University of Oklahoma (1951-55), he joined our School in Fall 1955 as Associate Professor, was promoted to Professor rank in 1958, and reached Emeritus status in May 1991. He remained active in retirement, came to School daily, and regularly published articles in archival journals - in fact, he has one article currently in press. His scholarly contributions include some 231 articles in archival journals and several books, including "Albright's Chemical Engineering Handbook," published by Taylor and Frances in 2009. During his career, Lyle received a number of recognitions, including our School's Shreve Prize three times, the College's Potter Award in 1988, and AIChE's Van Antwerpen Award in 2003. Computer labs closing for break.

Hi, I wanted to let those of you still on campus know that the computer labs in FRNY 1033 and 3041 will be closed until January 3rd. Any print jobs directed to the printers located in those rooms will be re-directed to the printer in FRNY 1014 as of this email's sending. Computer Service Issues Tomorrow

If you missed the email from Sundeep Rao of ECN, there are electrical upgrades going on with the MSEE building tomorrow so power and access to that building will be OFF from 5:30am until 8am tomorrow morning. Because many of the ChE computing services are housed or routed through that building it is suggested that you make sure you log off your computer tonight before you leave and not try logging in until 9am tomorrow morning. The Grounds Department has been working to apply an ice-reducing brine solution to roadways and remove snow. Sidewalks have been cleared of snow in most areas, however the freezing rain is causing extremely slick conditions that are difficult to remedy. Everyone is urged to use caution and proceed slowly, whether walking or driving, in these conditions. This is the first time the School opted to print a limited number of copies instead of 8,000 (one for every faculty, staff member and alumnus) in an effort to reduce costs and our environmental impact.
