While some may have noticed lights and HVAC equipment flicker or stop working others may not have been affected at all. Currently we are surveying each building and getting equipment tended to however there has been a loss of chilled water on campus. You may notice buildings warming until the power plant can get the systems operational again. In the meantime Zone 2 staff will be seen addressing HVAC units that did not automatically reenergize after the loss of power. I will try to get more information out once it becomes available and will be sure to let you know when full cooling capabilities are restored. Receiving dock cart

Safety awareness training session - Monday

Hello everyone, I have scheduled a safety awareness training session for Monday, June 17, from 3-4 pm in FRNY 1142. All new employees and researchers need to have initial safety training. If you have new people joining your groups for research, they will need safety training before they can start working (e.g. visitors, exchange students, post-docs, etc.). Please ask them to attend any of these sessions. Most of our undergraduate students already have the initial training, and would need to take the online refresher. Students from other departments or universities doing research in our labs, will need this initial training. Should you have any questions, please let me know. These reviews are part of our Integrated Safety Plan (ISP) and are required to obtain our annual recertification with the University. The safety audit of multiple offices can be inventoried on the same form. The timeline for the 2019 recertification process with REM is: - May - June - self-audits of all laboratories and offices - June - Safety inspections of all ChE laboratories and offices in FRNY - May - July - address deficiencies identified in self-audits and inspections - August - Recertification Review meeting with REM 1. Self-Audits: The ISP Self-Audit checklist can be found on the ChE School's website, under the "Laboratory Safety Requirements" heading: https://engineering.purdue.edu/ChE/aboutus/safety , or on the REM's website: https://www.purdue.edu/ehps/rem/isp/index.html . Please only use these forms, as they are the most up-to-date forms that are now used at University level. I also attach the most updated form, for your convenience. The first eight sections have universal questions that apply to every area. For self-audits of office space only section 1-8 have to be completed. Sections 9 to 27 have questions related to specialized operations; research laboratories and shops should address all sections (section 1 through 27). All self-audit checklists must be signed by PI/supervisor, not necessarily by the person completing the self-audit. I attach the Hazard Assessment Certification for FRNY offices for your information; please answer "yes" to questions 6.1 - 6.4 for offices. Please return completed self-audit forms to Gabriela Nagy in FRNY G051 by 5 pm on Friday, June 15, 2019. In addition to the self-audit, please review and update the door posting, hazard assessment (should be placed inside the lab, near the entrance), chemical inventory (Form HCP4), employee exposure list (Form HCP5) and lab specific Chemical Hygiene Plan for your work area. They should be accurate and dated within the last six months. If your group is keeping SDSs saved electronically, please make sure you follow the recommendations issued by the safety committee that are listed HERE<https://engineering.purdue.edu/ChE/aboutus/safety/documents/Guidelines%20fo…>. 2. Inspections: The ChE Safety Committee will perform unannounced safety inspections of all laboratories and offices during June, and will send the inspection reports to the faculty responsible for those areas. 3. Recertification Review: The review includes unscheduled visits to our laboratories and offices by REM. The recertification review meeting with REM will take place during August, 2019.
