Adrian Thomas joins CISTAR Team as Diversity Director

Dear Colleagues, It is my pleasure to introduce Adrian Thomas as the CISTAR Diversity Director. Adrian will be responsible for all aspects of the diversity, inclusion and mentoring programs for CISTAR. She will contribute to the CISTAR goal of developing diverse students with the technical and professional skills to become leaders in their profession. Adrian has a Master of Science in Education from Purdue University (2008) and a Master of Arts, Psychology from Southeastern Louisiana University (2003). Prior to joining the CISTAR team she was the Diversity Specialist in the Computer Science Department and the Assistant Director, Science Diversity Office, both at Purdue. My health status

Dear Colleagues, As many are aware, my cancer marker in blood was going up the last 6 weeks, from stable 11 for 7-8 months, to 23 six weeks ago and 30 two weeks ago (up to 35 is considered to be safe value). Thus, I accelerated visit to my clinic in Scottsdale for scans (done every 3-4 months) - Karen & I reached here on Sunday evening. I had CT & PET scans plus blood tests yesterday (Monday). The results from the oncologist meeting late today confirm our suspicion: there is indeed a new small tumor growing off my left lung. They will do more tests to determine its nature but it appears that I'll go on a new course of chemotherapy starting soon. The duration depends on my response and decrease of cancer marker but may easily last 6-8 weeks, unknown yet. Fortunately, owing to marker value determined every 2 weeks (under stable condition, it was measured every 4 weeks, but since it began to rise, we started measuring it every 2 weeks), the tumor was caught early. With this, I'll delay my visit to UCLA (was scheduled for Dec-Feb) and now it may not occur at all. I need to stay here under my oncologists' care until the cancer marker decreases and remains stable at a safe value. I'll continue working from here remotely and have regular meetings with my research students by Skype, Tel calls and email - work has always been good therapy for me. Safety awareness training session - Monday December 4

Hello Everyone, The next safety awareness training sessions is scheduled for this Monday, December 4, 2017 from 1:30-2:30 pm in FRNY 1142. All new employees and researchers need to have initial safety training. If you have new people joining your groups for research, they will need safety training before they start working (e.g. visitors, exchange students, post-docs, etc.). Please ask them to attend this session. Most of our undergraduate students already have the initial training, and would need to take the online refresher. Employee Self Service Year End Tasks

Good afternoon, Please read the following news release in regards to your personal and tax exemption information. All changes or updates in the Employee Self Service portal to your address, bank information or tax exemption selections must be completed by December 11, 2017 to be effective for the 2017 pay and tax activities. Employee Self Service Tasks for Year End In anticipation of the upcoming tax season, all Purdue employees should review and update (if necessary) their address, bank information, and tax exemption selections. Additional withholdings can also be submitted. These tasks must be completed through Employee Self Service by December 11, 2017. Employee Self Service (ESS) is a paperless, flexible, and secure avenue for employees to make changes to their vital personal information on file with the University. Changes can be made via Employee Self Service at any time, however December 11, 2017 is the specific deadline for changes to be effective for 2017 pay and tax activities. Exception: International employees will continue to submit their tax documents via the Glacier software and printed documents sent to the Payroll and Tax Services department. Employee Self Service is accessed through the OnePurdue Portal found on the Purdue Employee Portal<http://www.purdue.edu/employeeportal>.
