Regards, Audeen MEMO To: Graduate Chairs and Administrators From: Audeen Fentiman Date: January 3, 2012 Subject: Outstanding Service Scholarship Awards For the past three years, we have awarded a dozen Outstanding Service Scholarships, each award being $2,000, to graduate students who have provided outstanding service to the graduate student community, the School, the College, and/or the University. Each school has been asked to send two nominations to the College Office of Graduate Education, and a committee selected the awardees. When the Outstanding Service Scholarship program was new and not all schools had active graduate organizations, not all schools submitted nominations, and some schools had more than one awardee. Last year, each school submitted at least one nomination, and it seemed that each school had a very deserving graduate student. In light of the fact that all schools nominated graduate students for the Outstanding Service Scholarship last year and in an effort to minimize time spent preparing nominations, we will use a different approach this year. We ask each school to nominate one candidate for the Outstanding Service Scholarship. The nomination is due to Peg Michael (michaelp(a)purdue.edu) by noon on Friday, January 27. Nominees must meet the following criteria: 1. Be pursuing a graduate degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in your School, 2. Be among the top academic performers in the School (not necessarily have a 4.0 GPA), 3. Will not be graduating before December 2012 4. Have been enrolled in your graduate program for at least 2 years at the time of the nomination, and 5. Have contributed over time to the quality, reputation, or success of the graduate student community, School, College, and/or University. Nominations will consist of a letter from the Head of the School or the Graduate Committee Chair containing the following: * A recommendation that this student be selected for the Outstanding Service Scholarship, * Factual information showing that the student meets each of the 5 criteria listed above, and * A brief description of the process by which the student was selected.

Printing Status

Hi, First of all if you haven't read any other emails about the printing situation over the last 36 hours you can probably ignore this one. The migration back to the original print server is now complete. Before printing any more today you should reboot your computer. If you were able to print to your network printers yesterday or this morning without issue then rebooting should be all you need to do. If you had issues printing yesterday or today but the 'fix' instructions I sent (deleting and re-adding your printers) worked, then you will probably need to do those steps once again to be able to print. If you followed the 'fix' as instructed and it still didn't work or I came to visit you in person then let me know or you will be seeing me shortly to make sure you are working. Printing on VPS down late today.

Hi, ECN is upgrading our Virtual Print Server (VPS) later today - this is the server that most (not all) of our print jobs go through. If you use the VPS to print then you may not be able to print for about 45 minutes beginning at 4:45pm today. If your printer Is connected directly to your computer then you will not be affected. Once the server is back online if you are unable to print you may need to delete and re-add the printers you use on the VPS so the new drivers are installed. Only do the following if you are unable to print to your printers. You can find the printers in your list by going to Start, Settings, Printers and Faxes. If you need to delete the printer simply highlight the printer and delete it. To re-add a printer you should can follow these directions - please substitute VPS4 in place of VPS8 https://engineering.purdue.edu/ECN/Support/KB/Docs/InstallingaVPSPrinter Please also note that you should most likely NOT add any printer with a name ending in _ps. If you find you are unable to print starting on Thursday and can't re-add the printers with the instructions provided, please send a note to cheq(a)ecn.purdue.edu - please do not reply to this message. Printing Status

Hi, After the printer server upgrade yesterday many people were and are unable to print. I am working with those that have notified me that they are having issues. With many the fix I emailed yesterday is what has worked for them, however in some instances it appears the printer they are trying to print to is the 'culprit.' Currently no printing is available in the three computer labs. I am working to resolve this and will send out another note when printing will work. Please do not try to print to the lab printers as the jobs will simply get queued up and be deleted.
