(WLFI) - A construction accident caused a major communications outage in Tippecanoe County Friday. Many residents may notice their landlines and cell phones are not working. “It’s a mess,” Frontier Communications General Manager Dave Sorg said. “The lines will be out for a while.” Sorg says around 9 Friday morning, construction crews were working on the new roundabout at Yeager Road and Cumberland Avenue in West Lafayette when they accidentally pulled roughly 200 feet of fiber out of the ground. Sorg said other factors might be involved, especially copper cables. “The (landline) area impacted, generally speaking, is all north of U.S. 52 and west of State Road 43,” Sorg said. “(The outage) may even go south of 52 in West Lafayette because of this.” Sorg added that some Greater Lafayette area cell towers are down, possibly because of heavy cell-phone use during the landline outage. He said the outage may last all day, because crews have to find both ends of the fiber that was messed up, bring in a new fiber, and splice it in. Frontier crews are working as fast as possible to fix the problem. "Phishing" Email

Thanks to all that have asked, yes the email that many of you received yesterday or today with the subject of "Data Base" is indeed 'spam' or more precisely a 'phishing' email and should be deleted. The email shows as coming from several different sources but all seem to contain the following at the start of the email, "You have reached the quota limit of your email account in our database" Please delete the email. DO NOT click on any link in that email. If you did then you should immediately change your career account password in the normal way you do. Dear All, On Friday, October 19, I will be hosting a ChE Bake Sale in the Atrium from 9:00 AM - 12:00 Noon. The College of Engineering is having each department do a bake sale. We are in competition to see which School can sell the most. For this Adventure, I would like to have volunteers to bake something for the sale. Matty's School Fundraiser & Last Chance for Boy Scout Popcorn

Good Tuesday Morning everyone! Today is the final week if you wish to buy Popcorn from Matty for Cub Scouts, if you wish to do so I will need your order and payment by this Thursday. However, his school (Otterbein Elementary) has started a 2 week long fundraiser selling Fannie Mae Candies & ManCandles, each selling for $12.00 a piece. Fannie Mae Candies are great holiday gifts and also freeze well for a year. ManCandles is a company started by a young boy with $100 saved from his paper route. He uses soup cans for the container for his candles and donates the soups to local soup kitchens, hospitals, churches and other non-profit organizations.
