FR: Campus Emergency Preparedness and Planning Office DA: Monday, October 17, 2011 RE: Campus sirens replaced, to be tested Friday, October 21, 1- 4:00 p.m. Purdue has replaced all of its all-hazards outdoor warning sirens and has added two new ones on campus. A test of the system will be conducted between 1-4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 21. The university has sirens at the following locations: * Earhart Residence Hall * Hawkins Hall * Heine Pharmacy Building * Purdue Village * Hilltop Apartments * Grand Prix Race Track * Physical Facilities Service Building Friday's test is to ensure the sirens are operable and will include a 30-second activation of sirens that will be noticeable on campus. However, the potential for a full three-minute siren activation is possible. Siren system checkout and verification may require multiple tests during the time frame. If there is inclement weather, the test will be cancelled. Please disregard any siren activation during this time period; no action is necessary. If you have any questions, please contact the Emergency Preparedness Office at 49-40446.

Keys Inventory - Action needed

Good morning, We are transitioning all of our key tracking information to a database. We have all of the forms that you filled out when you received keys, but to make sure that our information is as accurate as possible, we would like your help through a self report survey on the keys related to Forney Hall that you currently have. Please send to Darron Bennet bennetdw(a)purdue.edu<mailto:bennetdw@purdue.edu>, our student helper, an email with the following information for all Forney Hall keys you have: Room Number - characters on front of key - characters on back of key Example: For room 2150: Rm A - 76335X - 6 Additional details: For unrenovated rooms (there are only 20 or so), the "front" of the key will contain 5 numbers and occasionally a letter. For most of the building the key will look like the bottom key in the attached picture and will have 2 letters then 2 or 3 numbers. One exception to the front/back rule is the recently renovated ground floor. For those, please include the number (usually 1-20) that is in the top area of the front of the key as well as what is on the back. Dear Colleagues, I am writing to thank you for your enthusiastic participation in the exciting events during the last few days. It all began with the Grand Prix race track event/ reception/ dinner for the Industrial Advisory Council (IAC) on Thursday evening. We continued with the IAC meeting on Friday morning, where many faculty, staff and some students participated. Then the School's Centennial Celebration events began at 1 pm on Friday and continued until the reception and Forney Hall/Discovery Park tours yesterday morning. All members of our School played important roles in making the occasion a memorable one for all our School's alumni, corporate partners and friends. I have received many complimentary comments from our guests about the high quality of our faculty, staff and students - and the imagination/classiness of our people and events. All indications are that our guests had a great time and have returned home with a high opinion of our School. I greatly appreciate your enthusiastic and cheerful organization and participation in the events. We even arranged for superb 80+ degree weather during all the days and a great football game victory yesterday - we did everything we possibly could! Thank you, thank you for all that you do, not only during the last few days but daily - it is helping our School reach new heights, with essentially no upper bound! Best, Arvind Varma

ISP Self-Audit Checklist Revised

ChE Faculty, Staff and Graduate Students, The ISP Self-Audit<http://www.purdue.edu/rem/home/forms/ispcheck.pdf> checklist has been recently revised. In this revision, sections have been rearranged and several questions have been refined. The first seven sections now have universal questions that apply to every area. Sections 8 thru 24 have questions related to specialized operations. If an area qualifies as an office, common (e.g., conference room, kitchenette), or computer laboratory and does not involve the handling of, use of, or exposure to hazardous chemicals, machinery, equipment, animals, or biological agents, only the first seven sections of the self-audit need to completed. If in doubt about the type of area being audited, please address all sections. Research laboratories and shops should address all sections. The ISP Self-Audit checklist is updated periodically. Always check the REM website for the most up-to-date version. We will be using the new version for all ChE self audits going ahead. Thank you. Linda Linda S. Safety Update: HPLC Waste Requirements - Please Read

ChE Faculty, Staff and Students, Effective immediately, all containers used for collecting HPLC waste must have a sealed cap. It is no longer acceptable to seal the container with parafilm or aluminum foil. REM has developed a useful web page that describes this new requirement and offers acceptable alternatives: http://www.purdue.edu/rem/hmm/hplcwaste.htm.
