I will be working on SDS for 235 today. Jenny is updating inventory for 237/254/256. Clark is updating inventory for 336. Awaiting to hear status of 359. Jorge is working on inventory of B38. Lab users- I would like to make a request for last-minute push to get the chemical inventory updated and electronic SDS records completed. If anyone has spare time, please assist. For today. Will try to reschedule for tomorrow, if needed? I was going to discuss this doc, explain how I used it to begin going thru 333 and finally be available for questions. Please attempt to read the doc (table) and go thru all chemicals in each of your spaces, observing the GHS symbol or blue-red-yellow diamond. There are many plastic secondary containers available on the upper shelves near my desk (for example, acid segregation). If you must move something, please document it on the pre-printed sheet for Jorge or myself to update the chemical inventory. Please do not update the inventory at this time. Urgent: Chemical Segregation Discussion & Execution

All POTR lab users and PIs- REM's inspection has now been scheduled for Tue Jan 25. It is essential that we have all hands on deck (POTR lab users) TOMORROW MORNING to review our current chemical segregation situation. Basically, our immediate attention is needed. Please meet me in POTR 234 (Fu Room) or 216 at 9am. This is mandatory. I apologize for scheduling this on short notice but it is an urgent safety violation that needs our attention and one that I believe can be accomplished if we all actively participate. It is also my hope that this will keep all lab users accountable when bringing new chemicals into the lab (remember- you should be emailing me SDSs). Jorge and Clark have been working very diligently in updating our Chemical Inventory in all POTR labs. I will give instructions on how to temporarily record tomorrow's movement of chemicals, if it necessary to do so. I will present a few minutes on the topic of Chemical Segregation and then we'll be dismissed to update chemicals in your applicable labs along with the Chemical Segregation and Storage Table handout. Please do not schedule any other task between 9-10am tomorrow. Urgent SOP updates by POTR location

As discussed in today's LORRE seminar, here is the link to Purdue REM SOPs. If any of these chemicals, hazard classes or processes are used in any of LORRE's spaces, then it is our responsibility to amend them in each room's CHP binder to maintain compliance. https://www.purdue.edu/ehps/rem/laboratory/HazMat/sops.html Therefore, Chemical Spill Cleanup process SOP is an example and should be printed for each room's binder and signed and dated by each lab user. I will fill out and print the following SOPs: Chemical Spill Cleanup & Laboratory Electrical Power Failure. Please schedule a visit to 236 and bring a pen to sign these documents FIRST THING ON MONDAY, before you begin any other work. This applies to ANY current and future lab user (PI, lab mgr, grad, undergrad or visitor trained in the lab). BUT FIRST, once you've confirmed that your workspace has the listed hazards (if you don't have it in your lab- please update by Reply), please read, update and print each SOP by EOB FRIDAY JUNE 7. Bring your room's binder to 236 and leave it at the center table. If your name is listed below, please add Compressed Gases & Oxidizers to your listed lab location. Each SOP describes a more specific use and lab users may be more knowledgeable than myself. I will take care of 231 in Jonathan's summer absence: Acetic Anhydride, Ethidium Bromide, Sulfuric Acid. I will take care of Sodium Azide, updating the inventory to only one location. Brent- Please prepare LN2, Toluene, Chloroform, Benzene, Sulfuric Acid for 359. Petr- Please prepare Chloroform, Toluene for B38. Elena- Please prepare Acetic Anhydride, Hydrogen Peroxide, Nitrate salts, Sulfuric Acid for 333. Please also verify that the CHP is up-to-date (2014 version, at minimum that states the official doc will be maintained online).
