To All: Dr. Ladisch asked that I send out an invitation to attend a reception honoring all of the graduate students who have graduated this year. The reception will take place at Dr. Ladisch's house (1014 Kingswood Road West, West Lafayette, IN 47906) from 1-3:30 PM. I have made a sign-up sheet that is in the office on the counter (write down your name, how many people you have coming with you, and the other persons name(s) that will be attending with you). To all: Samira did the experiment on Saturday, July 1^st . She found unknown Chemical Spill in Lab #231.This is a serious safety issue, we hope to get everyone's attention. See details below in the e-mail and pictures. For Non-Emergency Spills in the Lab, we have to clean up spills immediately. All spill debris must be collected in an appropriate container and receive proper treatment. For yourself and everyone’s safety and health, we have to comply with regulations. Follow Purdue’s rules regarding High-Hazard Emergency Spills and Non-Emergency Spills. Thank you for your attention. LORRE safety committee -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: Unknown Chemical Spill in 231 Date: Sat, 1 Jul 2017 20:49:09 +0000 From: Samira Fatemi <sfatemi(a)purdue.edu> To: xingya(a)purdue.edu <xingya(a)purdue.edu> Hi Linda, As I was working in 231 today (Saturday, July 1st, around 3:30pm), I noticed a liquid spill on the mass balance. In the first picture, you can see that the balance had not been re-zeroed after use and there are lots of droplets in the corner. As I went to go clean the balance, the liquid caused color changes on the paper towel, as seen in the second picture. I am not sure what sort of liquid this is and I am not sure how long it has been there. I did my best to clean up all of it and to wipe the balance down, but to me this is a serious safety issue - unknown spills of any chemical (liquid or not) should be addressed immediately. I thought I'd bring this to your attention. Thank you, Samira
