Virtual Safety Training Required & ISP update

Group- I believe we last met for Annual Lab Safety Retraining in Sept of 2019. Because REM hadn't yet pushed training to all Purdue career accounts, we used a generic login and clicked through the presentation and quiz together. I would like to encourage you to log into Purdue's University's Learning Management System (aka Vivid, using the Username and PW you created for this site) and complete the required training (noted by !). I think by the end of September would be reasonable. Please email me your status training report containing completed certificates when applicable. Other information to pass along- I spoke with Judah Young today. He is typically the REM employee that performs the ISP annual recertification of our POTR labs, usually in July. At this time, this has not yet been rescheduled (due to COVID restrictions, of course). I do anticipate starting the process of self-audits in cooperation with Lab Mayors in August. Reagents/microorganisms used in 237A safety cabinet

Hi everyone, The safety cabinet in 237A is due to be re-certified next month. In order to proceed, we need to list the biological agents and non-biological reagents used in this unit in the past 12 months. If you have used this unit in the past 12 months, please reply this email listing the materials you have used in it, so I can put all the info together in the form that we need to submit to REM. Reminder to disinfect workspaces

Group- I would like to remind you that you hold the responsibility of disinfecting your lab workspaces BEFORE & AFTER performing lab tasks, not just the doorknobs. In case it was not made clear in your return interview, it is each user's responsibility to disinfect work areas by wiping down surfaces with a disinfectant-soaked paper towel or other appropriate means when you enter the lab and also when you leave the lab. While I was responsible for the initial disinfecting, I am not responsible for disinfecting after the group on a daily basis. Let this be a reminder that by signing the Purdue-approved LORRE Individual PI & Multi-PI COVID-19 Research Space Standard Operating Procedure (attached), you committed to: REDUCING EXPOSURE: "...regular cleaning and disinfection of surfaces and shared equipment" Q18: "...agrees to clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and equipment used by more than one individual" Q19: "Wipe down of the bench area before work starts and after work is complete and the person leaves the lab will also be required." POTR Ethanol Cleaning and General Housekeeping

Labmates- Please recall that you signed an agreement to disinfect lab surfaces when you are finished each day. I am going to be bold and say that that is likely not happening after my morning rounds. I have noticed centrifuges uncovered/unopened/powered on, dirty glassware left on benches, balances left powered on and general untidiness of benches where pipettes, tips, racks and clean glassware should have been stored away. I am asking you all to please allow yourself more time to cleanup your workspace, whether it is shared or not. Thank you for your time. Lindsey
