Campus Seminar Announcement "A New Energy Future"
Colleagues -
I write to encourage you to take advantage of an exciting opportunity for your students on the afternoon of Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at Loeb Hall.
Together, the new Purdue Institute for Civic Communication (PICC), Bloomberg View (the opinion and analytical platform of Bloomberg News), and C-SPAN will present a series of forums on the issue of energy. The conference, entitled "A New Energy Future," will start at 1:30 pm and wrap up at 6 pm. The conference will address questions including: What are future needs for fossil fuels and can or should they be eliminated and replaced? Can we rely on renewables? Do practical solutions exist to reduce carbon emissions? How does natural gas change the equation? Is energy independence in reach?
Bloomberg View is inviting speakers from its talent line-up of writers and analysts, as well as representatives from Bloomberg New Energy Finance, which provides news and analytical tools to the energy sector. Brian Lamb is expected to interview a CEO of a major corporation on energy use. The forum will feature several Purdue faculty, including Jim Braun, Maureen McCann, and Wally Tyner in a panel that I will moderate. Program details will be available soon.
The format will encourage student Q&A. I hope you will encourage your students to attend. If you wish to give "attendance credit" for participating, the PICC will assist in taking attendance for the event for faculty who request such assistance.
Please contact the PICC Executive Director, Ambassador Carolyn Curiel, at curiel(a)purdue.edu<mailto:curiel@purdue.edu>, or her student assistant, Alison Gayer, agayer(a)purdue.edu<mailto:agayer@purdue.edu>, with any questions.
Best,
leah

I know that many of you have items to be autoclaved. Please see Linda to sign up for times to process your samples and materials so that everyone can use the autoclave efficiently.
