Mark your calendars and plan on joining us for the celebration of interdisciplinary graduate student research. Nominations for Panelist: We are seeking nominations for two different types of career path panels: Academia and Industry. The deadline to submit a panelist is Monday, Jan 13th at 8 AM. Nominate a graduate student to represent your academic unit! The Office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Scholars (OGSPS, formerly The Grad School) annual Three Minute Thesis competition is scheduled for April 15th! To increase academic representation in our 3MT(r) competition, we are asking that faculty members nominate talented graduate student(s) to represent their academic units. This nomination is simply intended to help our office identify and encouraged talented students to participate. Nominees must be current Purdue graduate students or postdoctoral scholars in the final stages of their research. Nominations are not required to submit a draft video, but each will be contacted by our staff and encouraged to register for the competition. Three Minute Thesis (3MT(r)) is a research communication competition that helps graduate students develop academic, presentation, and research communication skills so that they can effectively explain their research to a non-specialist audience. During each competition, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars will have three minutes to present a compelling discussion on their research topic, including its significance and relevance, to the public. This is a fast-paced competition where the top 10 finalists compete by summarizing their two to three-plus years of research in only three minutes with only one slide. The cash awards for this year's competition are $5,000 for first place, $3,000 for second place, and $2,000 for the People's Choice Award winner. [Dan Egan] Dan Egan for many years covered the Great Lakes for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Now he writes occasional long-form pieces about climate change for national media outlets, including the New York Times, and is a senior water policy fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's School of Freshwater Sciences. The 2023 ESE cohort highly encourages you to participate, as this is a fantastic opportunity to present your work to an audience from diverse disciplines. Remember, you can recycle posters you’ve presented at other events or share preliminary results from ongoing projects. We want to learn about your research! Plus, you’ll have the chance to compete for awards and enjoy free food along the way!
