Reminders and follow up fun for tomorrow night (Friday) Interdepartmental Gathering

Reminding you about the ESE gathering tomorrow night starting at 5pm. After the ESE gathering, Patrick is inviting everyone to come to his apartment above Chumley's - see invite below from Patrick. Seeing how several students will be attending departmental gatherings friday afternoon, we'll be hosting an interdepartmental gathering Friday Night around 9:00 PM we're having a get together at our apartment in downtown Lafayette, at 122 N. 3rd St. Apt. 300 (Above Chumley's, top of the stairs). Students, staff, and faculty are all welcome to attend. If you would like to bring drinks, food, family, and friends, all are most welcome. While it's the end of the semester and each of us are hunkering down to get final projects, papers, and studying completed, this will be a good chance to have a little breather. We will also have plenty of study spaces, wireless internet, and a whiteboard if anyone wanted to bring a little work with them. This theme will help us think more about social-ecological systems in an increasingly urbanized and politicized world, and it will allow us to explore salient topics, such as food, architecture, climate change, water, business, energy, transportation, education, values, fairness and wellbeing, among many other possibilities. Pittsburgh is a post-industrial city that has reinvented itself through higher learning institutions and the health care industry. However, the urban center is embedded in the vast rural region of Northern Appalachia, with legacies of agriculture, tourism, resource extraction, and manufacturing. There will be several field trips that explore these socio-environmental histories (e.g. urban farms, mining legacies, the Cultural District, and the Strip District). Conference participants will have ample opportunities to explore one of the most livable cities in the U.S. (learn more at http://www.planpittsburgh.com/green/<http://e2ma.net/go/12964766560/214220813/238861350/1401437/goto:http:/www.p…>) About the Call for Proposals: Our call for conference presentations occurs in two parts. Call #1 - for sessions In this first call we are soliciting proposals for pre-organized workshops, symposia, panels, and roundtables in which all (or a substantial number of) scholars have already agreed to participate. Session proposal deadline: Extended to December 13th, 2012. Call #2 - for individual papers/presentations The second call is for individual abstracts for all forms of oral and poster presentations. This call will follow the close of the call for sessions. AESS will make every effort to group individual papers/presentations together as thematic sessions, and may assign individual proposals to unfilled sessions developed from the first call. Presenters involved in a pre-organized symposium, panel or roundtable must submit their abstracts at this time. For pre-organized workshops, the organizer must submit an abstract for the workshop as a whole at this time, although abstracts are not required of individual presenters in such workshops.
