EPICS India: Week 2

Hi guys! For this week, the three groups are going to focus on different things. Hi all, Just a quick notice that Wednesday, August 29th is Lilly Day at Purdue, featuring a number of events with Eli Lilly, a major pharmaceutical manufacturer located in Indianapolis, IN. This is a great opportunity to learn about career and internship opportunities. We are pleased to have you all learning and making an impact in your community as a member of the EPICS family. This semester we have 43 divisions working on well over 140 projects and the opportunity to make a real difference has never been higher. During the semester I will send emails like this one that contain important course information as well as job and scholarship opportunities. We are very excited for this new PDH series, which will cover the basics of how to work with community partners to maximize the impact of your projects. [Image result for community engagement] ________________________________ Wallet Exercise - Due this week for all first-time EPICS students who are NOT in the learning community The wallet exercise will be conducted as skill sessions throughout this coming week. This activity is required if this is both your first semester in EPICS and you are not registered in ENGR 133. Learning community students will complete the exercise in their ENGR 133 classes. Reminder: PDH Deduction for No-Shows to Live PDHs Students who register for a PDH session and fail to attend will be deducted one PDH credit for each missed event. This change is intended to ensure that students who wish to attend a session are able to do so, rather than have empty seats due to no-shows. ________________________________ Learning Community Required PDH Series Update Dr. Oakes is planning to cover the Ethics/Community Partner Awareness PDH in ENGR 133 this semester, so students in the learning community will not need to complete the online module. LC students need to complete the Intro to EPICS module on Youtube, and the rest of your PDHs will be covered in the ENGR 133 course. ________________________________ EPICS Grading * The Individual Evaluation Rubric (IER)<https://engineering.purdue.edu/EPICS/purdue/team-documents/ier/edit> clearly spells out the requirements for each grade level. * It is advisable to review the IER early in the semester to understand grading in EPICS. * Unexcused absences from lab can have a significant effect on your grade. Important EPICS Pre-Semester Announcements ________________________________ Welcome Students Welcome to the EPICS family new students, and welcome back to the returners. We are excited to see the impact you will make in the community through your work this semester. There are some changes for this semester, so please pay careful attention to the announcements below. ________________________________ Professional Development Hours (PDHs) All students are required to complete five (5) PDHs per credit hour each semester. The requirements are listed in the PDH Menu<https://sharepoint.ecn.purdue.edu/epics/teams/Public%20Documents/PDH%20Menu…>. All first time students will need to watch the Introduction to EPICS<https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLc0ibrJx9X0nupwJAyql2G1nJySiF0k-3> playlist on YouTube before the first lab. Instructions for Logging Online Lecture Completion: 1) Watch all videos in the appropriate playlist. It is a good idea to subscribe to the EPICS Youtube channel. 2) Login to MyEPICS<https://engineering.purdue.edu/MyEpics/> using your Purdue career account. 3) Click View Activities, select 'All' in the 'Show' dropdown, and find activity with the naming matching the playlist. 4) Click 'Makeup', fill out the form, and click 'Submit' NEW PDH Deduction for No-Shows to Live PDHs Students who register for a PDH session and fail to attend will be deducted one PDH credit for each missed event. Undergrad TA vacancy for 2018 Fall semester

I hope you have enjoyed the EPICS experience during this semester and have successfully completed your final exams. If you are interested in helping to maintain the EPICS lab spaces, support other students with 3D printing, supplies and tools, and would like to participate in the committee to make the lab safer, please consider applying for an undergrad TA position. The EPICS lab is seeking to hire a undergrad TA for the 2018-19 academic year. The ideal candidate would * Be organized. * Have experienced EPICS in multiple semesters. * Be available 10 hours per week during evenings or weekends. * Plan to work multiple semesters given the opportunity. * Have interest in servicing other fellow students.
