MyEPICS Interruption

This is a long email because each of the deliverables is explained in detail. Please ask me questions if you have any after reading this. List of Mid-Semester Deliverables - Due Friday 10/04/2019 by 11:59 p.m. 1. Individual Evaluation Rubric * This document must NOT be uploaded on SharePoint or OneNote * Submit it to me via email with subject line "EPICS <team name>: <your name> - IER" * Label your document as follows: <TEAMNAME>-IER-Fall19-<YOURFULLNAME> * Responsibility: Individual Team Members * Outline your accomplishments with detailed descriptions * Please fill out the form in MS Word and add lines for additional items * Note where evidence of your work can be found. Design review follow-up document (attached to this email) * Responsibility: PM & Design Leads * One per project or sub-team (whichever works best for you) * Please fill out the form and upload it to the "Design Review" folder of your team's SharePoint * Make sure you list the comments and assign responsibility for addressing these comments to individual students in your teams while setting a due date for each * Note: Soon after your design review, I will scan the feedback sheets from the reviewers and send them to the team, to help with this item. 5. Design document * Responsibility: PM & Design Leads * One per project * Upload the most recent design document on your team's SharePoint Design Document folder 6. Verify that your attendance and course number (EPCS 1, 2, 3, or 4xx) are correct on myEPICS. (If you find any problem, please let me know.) 7. All first-time EPICS students should have their required five PDHs complete. Others should be on-track (Ideally you should have 80-100% of your PDH's done) General Comments: 1. Please make sure all the documents on SharePoint are checked-in. If documents are checked-out, they are accessible only to the person who checked them out - Please check-in documents that you check-out (this does not happen automatically!) 2. Make sure all major project documents are uploaded to SharePoint and that the documents on SharePoint are well organized in a logical manner. PM, Design Leads, and Project Archivist(s) are responsible for making sure the files are in good shape. 3. PM and DLs are required to write their lessons learned in their notebooks. Talk about anything you have learned and about anything that you think it might be helpful for the next generation who want to take your role at EPICS. Consider reaching out to Purdue faculty and staff that have expertise in your project area, as well as inviting your community partners. EPICS Educational Teams PDH

Hello Students, I wanted to bring to your attention a few excellent opportunities to complete your PDHs for this semester: Learning Series: May be helpful for your teams that are working with exhibits, schools, or other educational situations. The 'Learning Series' is a set of PDHs that cover how people learn in formal and informal settings, and may be really enlightening for your team and help ensure your projects are successful. If there are elements of teaching and learning in your project, I highly encourage you to check out these PDHs, including one tomorrow afternoon, Sept 17 at 4:30 pm in ARMS 1109. Register as usual in MyEPICS. Systems Engineering: May be helpful for all teams with complex projects. The 'Systems Engineering' series will help teams learn how to determine project requirements and manage complexity in design. Sessions are taught be engineers in industry from such companies as Eli Lily, Rolls Royce, and Cummins. The next session is coming up this Wednesday, Sept 18 at 4:30 in ARMS 1109. Register as usual in MyEPICS. Entrepreneurship Series: May be helpful for teams that are interested in commercializing their project, or in maximizing the impact of their projects. This series is taught by experienced entrepreneurs and faculty of the certificate of entrepreneurship, and is a great introduction to how businesses are created. Carefully crafting lists of User Needs and Specifications can help to ensure the success of the rest of your project development activities. The goal of the Specification Development phase is to understand "what" is needed by your community partner, and by the end of the phase, to develop measurable criteria in which design concepts can be evaluated. This is accomplished by understanding the context, stakeholders, requirements of the project, and investigating why current solutions do not meet the stakeholders needs. A few tips: * Every student is required to complete 5 PDHs per credit hour. * Every first-time student must complete the 5 required PDH series outlined in the PDH Menu<https://sharepoint.ecn.purdue.edu/epics/teams/Public%20Documents/PDH%20Menu…> * Last year, students completed PDHs in ENGR 133 - that is not the case this year. EPICS PDHs

Hello EPICS Students, I wanted to reach out on two issues around Professional Development Hours (PDHs): 1) There seems to be a lot of confusion around PDHs for first-time students, especially those in the first year learning community. Unlike previous years, the PDHs will not be covered in ENGR 133 for learning community students, with the exception of the wallet exercise. All first-time students will need to complete their introductory PDHs in MyEPICS. See the PDH Menu<https://sharepoint.ecn.purdue.edu/epics/teams/Public%20Documents/PDH%20Menu…> on the EPICS website for details. 2) Many of the PDH events in MyEPICS have had very few students registering relative to past semesters. Please be sure you are proactive about signing up and attending PDHs, as most of the opportunities are earlier in the semester so that you have time to apply the information. Attempting to complete all of your PDHs at the end of the semester is a bad idea. Your team advisors and TAs can help coach you along the way, but you have the freedom to have new experiences in your teams that can help lead to deeper learning. In order to translate your experiences into tangible lessons, reflective thinking is key. Every week, you should reflect about the experiences you've had, and consider what the implications of those experiences are for the community and for your own professional development.
