Important EPICS Week 9 Announcements ________________________________ Journal of Purdue Undergraduate Research – Info sessions Oct. 18 and Nov. 7 The Purdue Journal of Undergraduate Research will be holding info sessions on how to showcase your work. See attached flyer for details. ________________________________ Purdue Journal of Service Learning and International Engagement PJSL is a multidisciplinary, open access journal dedicated to students who conduct projects with service learning and academic civic engagement aspects. Submissions are accepted year round. EPICS INDIA Mid-Semester Deliverables

Hello INDIA Team, There are few items that you need to submit after you present tomorrow: 1. Individual Evaluation Rubrics (IER) - We would like you to evaluate your time in EPICS so far, so please fill out this form and email it to me by 11:59PM October 6th. You can find it here: https://engineering.purdue.edu/EPICS/purdue/team-documents/ier . Choose the document that matches your course number and fill it out. The focus should be on your self-assessment of the outcomes, justification of that assessment with evidence, and, if completing 2-credits, explanation of work beyond the 1 credit hour students. 2. Peer Evaluations - These can be found on myEpics in its own section complete with instructions. At the very least, fill out peer reviews for people on your sub-team. This is due 11:59PM October 6th. 3. Design leads from each sub-team should fill out the project evaluation rubric found on the left hand side of the link in #1 and email them to me. 4. Electronic notebooks should be ready for me to look at by 11:59PM October 6th. That means by Saturday you need to put your reflections and any work and accomplishments that indicate your effort thus far. EPICS Design Reviews

Hello students, A few notes going into this week's design reviews: 1) Parking Passes for Guests: If you have invited project partners, reviewers, or other guests who need parking passes and you have not already alerted the EPICS office, you will need to stop in the office before your review to get a paper parking pass. You will need to provide Anna with the contact information of the guest, so please come prepared with their name, address, email, and phone number. You will need to have the guest pick up the pass from you before parking on campus. Purdue changed their parking pass system this semester, and electronic passes are no longer available. 2) Limited Office Support: Jorge and I will be out of the office for a conference Wednesday through Friday, and so will not be on hand to assist with technical difficulties during the review. Please see your TA first, and then Dr. Oakes if you need technical support. If issues occur, your TA may decide to forego the remote review and proceed with an in-person only review. 3) Professionalism: These are formal reviews, so please come dressed in at least business casual attire and conduct yourselves appropriately. 4) Housekeeping: The EPICS conference rooms are used a lot for practice during design review week, but there is no nightly janitorial service, so please leave the room in better condition than you found it for the next morning's reviews. Also, the labs tend to get very messy as teams finish last minute work. We have many guests during design review, and would appreciate your efforts to clean up after yourselves and leave the labs in a state you would be proud of. EPICS India: Design Review Week

Hey team! This is the week...design review week. We're going to kill it! There's a lot of important information, so please read this entire email carefully. Please get to lab by 8:00am this Friday to set up and prepare. If you have a conflict and can't be there early, let me know. Important EPICS Week 7 Announcements Good Luck at Design Reviews! ________________________________ Design Documents - All should be turned in by the end of the day today. EPICS India: Week 6

Hey everyone - Design review is in 2 weeks so this week is all about making progress with our projects!! We'll talk more about design review and mock presentations during lab this week, but in preparation, here's a reminder of this week's assignments. Gantt Charts As discussed, gantt charts layout your project timeline. For now, focus on including what you think your next steps will be. Design Document The design document is basically where you formally document your project progress and status. The reason they're due this week is so that design reviewers get a chance to read over them and get a sense of what we're doing before coming to design review. I attached the design doc template to this email and put a copy in the drive<https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1YOKKXR65QbWK_QbGM2zjREHart3WsQ4M> along with some samples from last year. I'll let you know later this week where exactly they need to be uploaded in order for the design reviewers to see them, but for now, upload it to our Sharepoint<https://purdue0.sharepoint.com/sites/epics/india/Shared%20Documents/Forms/A…>. Design Review Invitations In order to get valuable feedback from design review, we need to invite people who we think could help us out. This could be your project partners (they can be remote reviewers and call in to the system), faculty doing related work, even other EPICS teams with similar projects. The goal is for each team to send out at least 2 - include a description of EPICS India and what design review is, the date/time (Oct. 5, 8:30am-10:20am) and location (ARMS 1101). If they say they can come, forward the email to Constantine so they can get all the official information and instructions. If they can't come — don't worry! We'll get a bunch of random reviewers assigned to us. Mock Design Reviews We're going to do mock design reviews next week, so try to start on your slides if you get a chance (there's a sample from last year in the drive<https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1I5dGruf41VvR3B7jHHiZM5g1uKTkhozL>). We'll do the same thing where I create a presentation and everyone adds their slides to it. Mock presentations will be October 1 - 3. As always, don't forget to do PIGs (it's in the drive, make sure you edit the week 6 one!) and let me know if you have any questions! EPICS INDIA - Card Access Issues

Hello INDIA Team, I talked with Jorge Martinez today about the after-hours lab access issues a few of you had. If you were able to swipe into the computer lab successfully, you should be able to access the main EPICS lab in 1098. He said the card reader for 1098 can be finicky and won't accept the card unless it is pushed all the way in and is slid straight across the reader (i.e. you are not sliding the card crookedly at an angle). So if it won't accept your card the first time, try it a few more times and make sure you slide it straight through parallel to the reader. I know it took a few tries for it to accept my own card. If your card has an RFID chip, you can avoid this issue by just putting it against the reader to gain access. EPICS India: Week 4

Hello everyone! Now that we have teams and project partners, we can start finding and working on projects. Some notes for this week (I know it's a lot, but please read through everything!)... Team Google drive folder I made a folder<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1YOKKXR65QbWK_QbGM2zjREHart3WsQ4M?us…> to keep everything in one place until we transfer it over to Sharepoint. In here, you'll find the presentations we've been doing these past few weeks, PIGs, and folders for each team. Your team doesn't have to use it, but it's there if you want! PIGs >From now on, we will be doing PIGs (progress, issues, goals) every week. Each week, I'll create a new presentation for everyone to add their slides to and put it in the Google drive. It's the design lead's responsibility to make sure their team does PIGs every week. Design Leads / Project Partner Liaisons Each team needs to nominate someone to be their design lead and project partner liaison (it can be the same person). Here's a description of each role from the EPICS website... Design lead: Role that oversees the project design and responsible for facilitating the project through all aspects of the design process. Project partner liaison: Team member selected to be the main point of contact between the team and the project partner. Make sure you fill out the survey in the google drive BY Thursday, September 20th at 11:59pm. Pictures Since we finally have teams, we will be taking pictures of all of your lovely faces next week during lab. Just giving you a heads up (the pictures will most probably end up on the website)! Notebook checks Notebook checks are this week so make sure to get everything in and updated in your notebook by TONIGHT. Things to keep updated: weekly reflections, work and accomplishments (eg. pictures of prototypes, meeting notes, research, etc.) Team meetings / communication Let me know when your team plans on meeting this week. I'll try to stop in and make sure everyone's on the right track and so we can make progress! I suggest making a GroupMe (or apparently snapchat group I guess???) so that everyone in your group is on the same page. I think that's it from me — have a great weekend!
