Card Access to EPICS Design Build Lab (ARMS B103)

Dear EPICS students, My apologies, Purdue is upgrading the card readers and the one for the Design Build Lab was changed ahead of schedule. While the new card reader is programmed, please use the card reader in the Unclean Room (ARMS B097) to access the Design Build Lab. We are hoping this inconvenience won't last long, as the plan is to have all readers changed by the end of the week. I would like to take the opportunity to let you know that with access to the "Unclean Room", all spray painting should be done now in B097. Please ask for help when needed to show you how it is turned on and off. Please do not use the fume hood in ARMS 1098 any longer for spray painting. We will be relocating one of the flammable cabinets from 1098 to B097 to help with storage of spray paint. You can still use the fume hood when dealing with other chemicals requiring ventilation while handling. Intellectual Property Law Seminar - Tonight

Hi all, We received a late notice on this event going on in ARMS tonight, but wanted to bring it to your attention. Best, Andrew Indiana University's Center of Intellectual Property Law Research will be hosting a seminar on Tuesday, 3/6, from 5:30 pm to 7 pm in ARMS B061. The last 20-30 min of this event will be reserved for questions and networking. Representatives from the Center of Intellectual Property Law Research will be able to speak to the knowledge that is essential for engineers especially, entrepreneurial engineers or design engineers, to understand. The Center also runs a Pro Bono Intellectual Property Law clinic that is capable of handling litigation, preparation, and prosecution for Intellectual Property matters. The director of this Pro Bono clinic, the Director of the Center, and renowned litigation lawyers will be in attendance. The first segment of the event will be dedicated to the information that is important for engineers to know about Intellectual Property (IP). The second will briefly discuss how engineers can have a career in IP before opening up for questions from the floor. Our team has finished prototyping our design and with our reviews from the past design review, we are hoping to deliver within the next 4 weeks. Thus, the primary priority is time. We need a device that looks like something in the pictures attached. (The models aren't dimensionally accurate) It is just a very rough sketch of what we are hoping to achieve and the two options we have to make that would be to 3D print them (in parts, with a total of 5 individual parts) or use acrylic sheets and shape/cut them with laser. Right now, we are looking at both the options while we work on the accurate 3D model and go with whatever option we find to be the least time-consuming. We decided to email you as we were told by the EPICS office that you could let us know if there are any acrylic sheets that are already available for use. From our calculations, we will need a minimum of 2x (1m *1m) sheets. So we are looking for sheets around that sizing. As for color; we are leaning towards white/black/silver (or grey) but we would opt for whatever would take the least amount of time to get. So the purpose of this email is to get a general understanding of how long it would take to get the material we have mentioned above so we can decide between printing them or cutting them. We should have enough PLA in the lab for 3D printing. At this point there is no acrylic in back order. The best route would be the team ordering what is needed. Tasks for the coming weeks - EPICS INDIA Spring 2018

Hey everyone, Great job with the design review and all the comments we received. This is a sum up of all the things I mentioned on the groupme, but I will make it clear and put it up here so that you can save this mail take a look at it if you are unsure. I will apologize if everyone feels overwhelmed by the number of things you are responsible for, but we need to stick to our schedule and take into all the complications that we will face during the next steps. Next steps : Modeling the new casing - Zaina and anyone else who wants to help her. Please drop an email to Mr. Jorge about the acrylic (email : mart1419(a)purdue.edu<mailto:mart1419@purdue.edu> ). Since this is going to eat up the time we have, we will be working on the final model WHILE we get a final word from him. If autoCad is not working, try sketchup. You can get assistance from Kelsey if you run into any issues or need some oversight into your design. If SketchUp doesn't work, then we have Solidworks and so on. Note: I am positive with the 3D model printing as we have the resources at our disposal and we will only need the modeling to be completed. If you think otherwise, let me know why. ATTACHING THE CASING: HEAT INSERTS FOR 3D models looks promising and easy to use. Printing the casing - Rahul I will be responsible for printing all the pieces and we can all work together in attaching them. We will be using the heat set inserts made for 3D printing, along with a screw and attaching them together physically. This is cost effective and less time consuming than making snap-fit joints Wiring the new model and building a backup circuit - Rahul - Once again, I will take responsibility for this and make sure we have the model working. Website - Lexi - You will need to get the website updated ASAP Testing - Lauren - Lauren, I need you to email (ASAP) Prof. Carla Zoltowski(email : cbz(a)purdue.edu) and ask her if we can go ahead with the testing process(not sure if she will contact them for us or she will give us the contact information)/ get any contact information so we can contact them and check the availability. This needs to be planned well ahead of time so we can get everyone's availability and start getting the model ready for testing. Worst case scenario, we will be testing with the wooden prototype and we can account for the feedback in the final model. Safety - Lauren/Lexi - I need the both of you to look into what sort of safety regulations we will have to worry about (if any) and start coming up solutions for it. We around 4 weeks before scheduled delivery and we need to get all of this done before that. I know everyone has exams coming up and classes are getting hectic, but we will need to plan every single step out in advance and execute it effectively. Each person should start working on their tasks and make sure you have a back up/ Plan B/C for each step. If one of those ideas don't work, move to the next one. Time is precious.
