IEEE-USA is seeking members interested in serving as advisors to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)<https://www.usaid.gov/>. Known as an IEEE-USA ENGINEERING & INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT FELLOW, you will spend a year, beginning in September, living and working in Washington, D.C. The fellowship offers an opportunity for member of the science, technology, and engineering community to provide valuable technical expertise to USAID while learning about and contributing to the foreign policy process. https://ieeeusa.org/advocacy/government-fellowships/usaid-fellowships/ To be considered for an IEEE-USA Engineering & International Development Fellowship, applicants must meet the following basic eligibility requirements: * Applicants must be an IEEE Member (which includes those in graduate student membership status) in good standing at the time of application. * * Applicants must possess either: i.) a Ph.D.; or ii.) a Master's degree plus a minimum of five (5) years of full-time, professional work experience. Applicants who are in the final stage of obtaining a Ph.D. may apply and interview for the Fellowship. However, the applicant must provide official transcripts confirming possession of a Ph.D. prior to the start of the Fellowship on September 1st. The degree must be granted by an accredited program in a subject field that falls within the science, engineering, computer, or allied disciplines eligible for IEEE membership. In exceptional cases, the Government Fellows Committee may waive the Masters plus work experience or Ph.D. requirements for candidates with extraordinary compensating experience. Work experience must consist of full-time, relevant professional employment and does not include internships or student-related employment. * * The required five years of work experience must consist of full-time, relevant professional employment and does not include internships or student-related employment and research positions. * An applicant must be a U.S. citizen at the time of application or, at the latest, prior to selection. * An applicant must possess or be able to obtain a security clearance prior to the beginning of the fellowship. Hi All, Shah Lab has been making concerted efforts in understanding the opportunities to utilize our supported solutions and technologies to help alleviate challenges at home, applying the concepts of reciprocal innovation. And like with every project, here too, we have been talking to like-minded entities that work in local communities. One of such entity is Bronx Partners for Healthy Communities.<http://www.bronxphc.org/> (BPHC) BPHC, works with communities in Bronx and is leading an initiative called DSRIP (Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment) , which aims to reduce avoidable emergency room (ER) and hospital admissions by 25% by building a provider system of coordinated, community-based care that focuses on treatment, wellness and disease prevention. DSRIP Program is a major collective effort to transform New York’s Medicaid Healthcare Delivery System from a fragmented system, overly focused on inpatient care, to an integrated and community based system focused on providing care in or close to home. BPHC leads this work in partnership with more than 230 local organizations. BPHC has shared with us some of the key areas that they have seen as challenges in their work (please see the attached excel sheet). These are very high level challenges/program summaries and before we dig deeper to clarify areas where we could potentially be helpful, I wanted to ask you, if there are any areas, where you can see your research being applicable? Please let me know your thoughts/inputs/questions by end of this week (Friday, 23rd). Eligibility criteria includes: 1) professors (assistant, associate, etc.) at a university or degree-granting research institution; 2) Applicants must have received their PhD within seven years of submission (e.g. applicant in 2020 must have received PhD in 2013 or later). Exceptions will be made for applicants who have been teaching seven years or fewer and had delays, such as working in industry, leave of absence, etc.; and 3) Individuals can submit one application per round, and apply a maximum of three times.
