BRK Network Infrastructure Upgrade on 3/11/19 & 3/13/19

ITaP and its partner contractor Presidio will be upgrading Purdue's campus data network and wireless system in BRK which will require periodic outages as the new equipment is installed and brought online. Network switch replacement will involve a total building outage, including VoIP phones, the night the new switches are activated. We plan on upgrading your building on Monday, 3/11 and Wednesday, 3/13. The upgrades will begin at 11:00 P.M and last until 6:00 A.M the following morning. Since your building is larger than other buildings on campus we need an extra day to finish the upgrade. After the first night's maintenance is complete at 6:00 A.M networking services will resume like normal until the Wednesday night maintenance begins at 11:00 P.M. In addition, as new wireless access points are installed there will be periodic losses of wireless coverage in areas where these access points are located, while the old access points are being retired and the new access points are being brought into service. The interruptions should be less than 10 minutes per access point. NOTICE - Birck Nanotechnology Center Cleanroom & Labs Back to Normal Operations

All BNC User, It appears that the power interruption was internal to Wade Plant where a switch failed causing a fault to trip a power feeder that supplies power to parts of campus and not all of campus. The tripped feeder also shutdown 2 out of 3 steam boilers at the Wades Power Plant and large campus chilled water system. The incoming campus steam pressure and campus chilled water appear to be back to normal. At this time cleanroom, all lab spaces, toxic gases, and chemical exhaust systems are up and operational. The power outage also interrupted research equipment and high vacuum systems which are in the process of being re-started. Please check iLabs for individual equipment status. Dear BNC User, Duke energy lost power to the entire campus for couple seconds this morning. Our building systems are in the process of recovering but Wade power plant lost all campus steam pressure needed to maintain our cleanroom and lab mechanical systems. We will need to shut down the cleanroom, all lab spaces, toxic gases, and chemical processes until campus steam pressure returns. I will send an update with conditions improve. Dear User, Last Sunday evening we experienced an unplanned major power outage that shutdown our building systems and closed all lab and cleanroom operations. We also had a UPS repairs scheduled for this week that will close our lab and cleanroom operations for this week and was planned several weeks ago (email below). These signs have been posted on all doors at the same time as the email. We have recovered this afternoon from the unplanned power failure from last Sunday evening. But we still need to complete the UPS repairs planned for this week as well. At this time we hope to have the UPS repairs completed and have all lab and cleanroom operational by Friday at 4PM. An email notice will be sent out if the repairs are completed earlier. Please contact me if there are any questions or concerns. Air handling systems, exhaust systems, toxic gas delivery, and monitoring systems will be down beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday, February 5 through 4 p.m. Friday, February 8.
