Please consider attending the following: MATERIALS ENGINEERING SEMINAR "Irradiation Response of Nanocrystalline Metals" By Tongjun Niu Purdue MSE Ph.D. Preliminary Exam Advisor: Professor Xinghang Zhang ABSTRACT Exposing to energetic particle irradiation induces significant microstructure evolution and property degradation in irradiated materials. One general strategy to alleviate radiation damage is to introduce abundant defect sinks. Grain boundaries (GBs) are effective defect sinks, and nanocrystalline (NC) metals with abundant GBs have promising applications in nuclear reactors. The mechanisms of defect-grain boundary interactions have been widely investigated by both simulations and experiments. Experimental studies show distinct size effect on enhanced radiation tolerance of nanocrystalline metals compared to their bulk counterparts. However, the high angle GBs in NC metals are often unstable during radiation. The suppression of irradiation-induced grain growth at elevated temperatures is one of the significant challenges for design high temperature radiation resistant NC metals. I know first-hand that traveling around the US is quite complex and stressful for LGBTQ+ individuals with and without spouses. Come join us at one of Columbus' gay bars - bring your spouses, partners, friends, and colleagues to this space. Know that this is a safe space where you will not only be allowed, but your many identities will be celebrated. Interior Window Cleaning (ARMS)

Building Services plans to provide INTERIOR cleaning of EXTERIOR windows, as our resources allow. ARMS is next building in our list, and we would like to start there in the next day or two, possibly Wednesday morning (10/3/18). We will start on the top floor and will work our way around to the rooms that have exterior windows, and move to the next floor down until we complete the building. This should include all rooms that have blinds, or windows to the outside. It does not include things like door glass, or interior walls made of glass. The cleaning will take place between the hours of 5:00 AM and 1:30 PM, Monday - Friday. The door to each room will be left as we find it: if locked, we will lock it again when we leave. If unlocked, we will leave it unlocked. If you could please have all items removed from the windowsills that would be very much appreciated. We cannot clean windows that have obstacles in front of the glass. If our crewmembers arrive to clean a window and the occupant does not want them cleaned, we will pass on to the next room. Will you notify the building occupants please so they will be prepared for our visit? This will take more than one day to complete the building.
