Power supply for electroplating/electropolishing in lab 2103 is missing

I am forwarding this message from a student. Attached is a picture of the power supply similar to what is missing, please return it immediately. [cid:image001.png@01D4CF79.4DAE0670] The power supply for electroplating/electropolishing is missing in Prof. Handwerker lab（ARMS 2103）. Unfortunately, I do not have the exact image of that power supply, but it is quite similar to the equipment I sent you in the attachment. It is white, and you can control voltage and current by switching the knobs on the front side. And it has electrical wires connected to the anode and cathode, respectively. It is placed on a black removable cart near one furnace. It also has Prof. Blendell name on it in black marker. I will appreciate your kindness if you can send out an e-mail to the faculty as well as graduate and undergraduate students to find out where it is since it is a really important equipment for the research. Serratos Purdue MSE Ph.D. Preliminary Exam Advisor: Professor Mukerrem Cakmak ABSTRACT Capacitors are a common and widely used device used for storage of electrical energy. Thin polymer films are often used as a dielectric material due to easy processability, lighter weight, and high-quality mechanical properties, having more flexibility compared to nonorganic materials. However, polymer dielectrics tend to have the disadvantage of lower thermal conductivities and lower dielectric constants. Furthermore, dielectric breakdown - the phenomenon at which electrically insulating materials become conductive - is a mechanism that is not fully understood. Understanding the dielectric breakdown in polymer films will lead to additional improvements of the dielectric properties of these polymers. Several methods have been studied to improve the polymer film's dielectric properties, including the addition of nanofillers within the polymer matrix, or forming multilayers of different polymers as a dielectric. One method in this study is the addition of a functional coating of a nonorganic dielectric material on top of the thin polymer film. Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) is a possible method to achieve this. ALD has been used to deposit nonorganic material onto polymer substrates before, although its use is common as a diffusion barrier, while studies on ALD on polymer substrates for dielectrics has not been seen. A review on the literature of ALD on polymers - along with alternative methods for thin film deposition - has been compiled and presented here as a possible method to improve the dielectric properties of thin polymer films. Please consider attending the following: MATERIALS ENGINEERING SEMINAR "The Magnetic Alignment of Hexagonal Boron Nitride and Liquid-crystalline Polymer for Thermal Management Applications" By John Bui Purdue MSE Ph.D. Preliminary Exam Advisor: Professor Mukerrem Cakmak ABSTRACT There is a current trend in consumer electronics toward devices with slimmer profiles which contain components with higher processing power; as such, the generation of heat and the efficient transfer of that heat to the external environment has become more critical in maintaining optimal device performance as well as extending service lifetime. In this paper, a rationale for material selection and processing with respect to polymeric composites will be proposed to address this issue by fabricating an anisotropic film for use as a thermal interface material or TIM. For this case, an electromagnet will be used to align both the matrix and filler phase, respectively as follows: a thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer and surface-modified hexagonal boron nitride. Cylinders

There is an overabundance of cylinders at the loading dock-so many that they no longer fit into the cage and we are now in violation of having unsecured tanks. Several of these are for MSE. Hello All, Because I am going back my country, I am looking for someone to sublease my apartment (in Salem Courthouse) starting from April 1, 2019 to May 31, 2019 for 2 MONTHS. Rent of my apartment which is in 3rd floor is $920. It is conveniently located near Purdue University, as well as restaurants and great shopping, and has beautiful grounds feature many mature trees and walking trails. 2 bedroom&2bathroom apartment offers great amenities including a private balcony/patio, spacious walk-in closets, wall to wall carpeting, central heating and A/C, washer/dryer, all electric kitchens with range, refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, microwave and disposal. I have also beds, sofa, futon study and dinner tables, chairs etc. If you wish to get them, you will also find it easy. You'll want to take advantage of tennis court, swimming pool, sanded volleyball court, fitness room and clubhouse. Moreover, you will also have picnic area, playground, on-site management, 24-hour emergency maintenance and on-site management. These facilities and more await you. Location is on the City Bus Route (Salisbury), 5 minutes from Purdue. We have no pets. However, if you have pets or if you wish to stay in an apartment welcoming pets, that is the place. Policy permits 1 dog or 2 cats per apartment. Apartment is located in the northwest area of West Lafayette, within minutes of Routes 231, 52 and I-65. Directions from Purdue University: Take Northwestern Avenue to merge with US 52. At Cumberland Avenue, turn right. Remain on Cumberland Avenue through the roundabout before arriving home. Please consider attending the following: MATERIALS ENGINEERING SEMINAR "The Study of Carbon Materials for Energy Storage Systems: >From Synthesis to Structure" By Kyungho Kim Purdue MSE Ph.D. Final Exam Advisors: Professor Jeffrey P. Youngblood and Professor Vilas G. Pol ABSTRACT Among diverse energy storage systems, battery shows advantage in charge/discharge time, easy relocation, and relatively cheap cost compared to other energy storage systems. Lithium ion battery (LIB), the first commercialized battery introduced in 1991 boosted the development of various portable devices. However, recent technologies such as electric vehicles and large intermittent devices, require an alternative energy storage system (ESS) with high capacity and/or cheap cost. Advanced lithium ion battery, sodium ion battery, lithium-sulfur battery, lithium-metal battery, and lithium-air battery has been proposed to address the necessity of next generation ESS. Numerous materials have been reported to satisfy the requirement of these ESS. Among the potential materials, the unique characteristics of carbon including conductivity, cost, morphology tunable, and porosity draw intense interest for ESS. This review provides an insight of the impact of carbon characteristics (e.g. cost, structure, conductivity) on electrochemical performance and resolving issue associated in different battery systems. The first section describes an economic and ecological benign carbon synthesis method for advanced lithium ion battery. Subsequently, the carbonization temperature impact on final carbon structure and its application in sodium ion battery are introduced. The final two section discuss the effort to resolve issues associated with lithium-sulfur battery and lithium-metal battery. Dear Grad Students and Postdocs, Just a reminder that I will be leading the Safety Town Hall event in MSE 690 this Monday (Feb 18th) in ARMS 1010 from 3:30-4:20 pm. This event will count as your annual "refresher" training, which is required by Purdue REM for all employees to continue using any lab spaces on campus, including all the labs maintained by MSE. Thus, attendance will be documented. If you are unable to attend this event (e.g., due to conference travel), you will have to option to attend a similar event for the summer undergraduate researchers in June. But I promise you it will be way more boring since the target audience is non-Purdue UGs and it will happen on a Friday afternoon when it is 65F and sunny.... So, my recommendation is to come to the seminar on Monday. I will be presenting the safety survey feedback, which is very very interesting. E.g., I'm currently sifting through over 20 pages of written comments, which is awesome. : ) See you Monday, Prof. Erk
