by Ladd, Brent Thomas 27 Jan '25

27 Jan '25
[cid:b9a695e0-2f7e-4f46-8e32-5eecfc0fd297] Dear EMBRIO Members, Tune in this afternoon 3-4pm EST for our invited seminar by Scott Howard<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fengineeri…>, Ph.D., University of Notre Dame "Next Generation Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Microscopy (FLIM)" Zoom link: https://purdue-edu.zoom.us/j/97946412458?pwd=YUurFKck0n1am07eA7b0O0TVKsVwpC…<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpurdue-ed…> Abstract This talk will introduce fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM), a microscopy tool for quantitative analysis of intravital microenvironments, and our "Instant FLIM" system that costs a fraction of existing multiphoton FLIM systems and achieves the highest imaging rate, depth-resolved, intravital imaging in highly scattering tissue. Our open-source image analysis and processing tools, including neural-network based image denoising, and our work developing the first theoretical framework for machine-learning based FLIM image processing and analysis will be presented. by Ladd, Brent Thomas 13 Jan '25

13 Jan '25
Dear EMBRIOphytes, This afternoon 3-4pm EST, Dr. Denise Driscoll (bio below), will present our ABIDES invited scholar seminar, "Your Role in Building Teams that are Inclusive and Culturally Responsive" (please complete two very quick self-reflection exercises we will be using during the seminar - attached). Additional announcements below include details on posting your faculty project to the SURF Program, and several conferences that may be of interest. Seminar Title: Your Role in Building Teams that are Inclusive and Culturally Responsive Date/Time: January 13, 3-4pm EST Zoom link: https://purdue-edu.zoom.us/j/97946412458?pwd=YUurFKck0n1am07eA7b0O0TVKsVwpC…<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpurdue-ed…> Description: Dr. Driscoll will give an introductory, interactive talk about 1. how one creates a culture of inclusion when working on research- or project-related teams and 2. how to increase one’s cultural intelligence (CQ) and be more culturally responsive when on a diverse team. Accompanying Activities: 1. When you think of a team that is inclusive in your workplace, what are some everyday workplace practices, procedures, and/or processes that you believe are responsible for creating a culture of inclusion? Write down a few examples. 2. Please complete the Cultural Intelligence (CQ) Scale - 20 item version (see attached). It has pros and cons, as any scale does, but only takes a few minutes to complete and will help everyone think more complexly about what CQ entails. *During the session, we will talk about global dexterity and illustrate the concept using the Countries and Cultural Considerations attachment. Please print this document ahead of time if you don't have multiple screens. Thank you! Speaker Bio: Since 2019, Dr. Driscoll (Indiana University, B.A., 1986; University of California, Santa Barbara, Ph.D., 1992) has been CISTAR’s Director of Diversity and Inclusion where she is responsible for helping CISTAR NSF-ERC become a more diverse, inclusive center where people from all backgrounds are ready to participate and lead in a global energy economy.
