Dear EMBRIO Members, How is everyone’s summer going? I’m checking in with you all regarding plans for the Fall semester. Traditionally we’ve held our seminars on Monday’s 3-4pm ET, and recently on an approximately 2x per month basis. If I hear from a majority of you that this day/time absolutely doesn’twork, then we can revisit the timing overall - let me know by this Friday August 2nd. (Many of you in BME at Purdue now have a monthly faculty meeting on Mondays overlapping, however we are coordinating dates to avoid a conflict.) Thanks Everyone for a Great Annual Retreat and Summer School last week

Dear EMBRIOnic People, Last week saw more than sixty of us in person for the combined summer school and annual retreat held at Purdue University. It was wonderful to reconnect, share the latest research results and insights, interact with panelists about the broad range of careers available for those with graduate degrees, dig deeper into the Institute's plans for data sharing and management, and for those in the summer school: to learn effective methods and pedagogical best practices for creating instructional materials in the context of digital media such as google colabs. A huge thank you to the summer school thrust 4 organizers, including lead instructors Ale Magana, Stephanie Gardner, Anajli Iyer-Pascuzzi, and those who assisted with leading sessions including Elsje Pienaar, Ignacio Camarillo, Soumi Mukherjee, Aby Udosen, NIssa Larson, and Hayden Fennell. We'll be staying in touch with all who participated in designing new instructional materials for ways in which you might complete your projects and dissemination. Thank you Everyone for a solid day of exchange of the highlights from the biological thrusts, and to everyone who presented lightning talks and posters today. Tomorrow will feature Thrust 4 speakers, we'll hear more about data sharing and data management for the Institute, and we'll have a second session of lightning talks and posters showcasing Thrust 3, 4, and Core research projects. Hello Everyone, A quick reminder that registration and putting up posters, starts at 8am Thursday in MJIS 1097 and we will get started at 8:30. Coffee, tea, juice, water will be available, snacks at breaks, and lunches provided. This year we are featuring a scientific figure competition. EMBRIO Summer School Day 3 & Updates for Annual Retreat

Dear EMBRIOnic Folk, The Summer School participants have been engaged in learning and incorporating pedagogical best practices into their instructional media projects and talking about science communication this week. Summer School organizers Ale Magana and Steph Gardner have organized 4 groups of presentations with a break in the middle this morning. 9am-11:40am in MJIS 1097. Participants will be sharing their respective in-progress Colab notebooks to get feedback from the larger group. Even if you are not involved in the summer school, we invite you to stop in this morning for the presentations. Tomorrow morning we kick-off our All-Hands Annual Retreat! Mid-morning our research thrust talks will commence. We have many exciting new results and insights to be shared this year. I hope everyone will enjoy the end-of-week Independence Day holiday, and those traveling to Purdue will have smooth sailing. See below for our web links with agendas and details. Final deadline is TODAY (no further extensions or exceptions) for annual retreat poster abstract and poster lightning talk slide (you don't need to submit your actual poster file!), and deadline is also today for anyone submitting a scientific figure/video for the competition: See the submission details and links below. Please don't delay if you want to be included in these sessions! I need these items by tonight to have time to organize and prepare these sessions.
