Please join Mentoring@Purdue (M@P) for the Recognizing and Addressing Implicit Bias workshop TODAY, Wednesday, September 26th from noon-1:00pm in Pfendler Hall room 241! Gender, Race, Age--We all have unconscious beliefs and biases that can cloud judgement and affect relationships. To form an effective relationship with your mentee/mentor, it is important to recognize these unconscious or implicit biases. Join us for an interactive workshop on how we can recognize our own implicit biases and prevent it from negatively affecting our mentoring relationships M@P is a mentoring program designed with women and minority graduate students at Purdue University in mind. M@P aims to improve the quality of graduate education through fostering mentoring relationships between graduate students and faculty or staff members in the Agricultural and Life Sciences. Mentoring has played a crucial role in the success of many individuals, especially those that are generally underserved. The M@P program helps students grow professionally, academically, and personally to become successful individuals in their chosen area of study. M@P is designed to meet the mentoring needs of the mentors and mentees in the program through events, group forums, guest speakers, and workshops. As a participant in M@P, you will have numerous opportunities for academic and personal growth, support, encouragement, and assistance. M@P will provide training and guidance to both parties on how to have an effective mentor-mentee relationship. Pollard, M.D. Sterling Professor of MCDB Yale University [https://pollardlab.yale.edu/sites/default/files/resize/images/thumbnail_Tho…] Abstract: Professor Pollard’s laboratory combines microscopy, biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology and mathematical modeling to study the mechanism cytokinesis. His lab characterized important contractile ring proteins (actin, formins, profilin, cofilin, myosin-II and anillin) and developed methods to count protein molecules in live fission yeast cells by fluorescence microscopy, measuring the numbers and dynamics of more than 20 contractile ring proteins. Recently they determined the substructure of the precursors of the contractile ring by high-speed super-resolution fluorescence microscopy of live cells. This body of quantitative data allowed the lab to formulate and test molecularly explicit mathematical models for contractile ring assembly and constriction. Hello everyone, One of the things which NSAC is focusing this year is to improve the sports participation of people from Birck. We would like to know people who are interested in playing any sports as a recreational activity and also if they want to participate in the intramurals held at Purdue for which NSAC will fund the registration fee. We would like to get response from everyone (including postdocs, professors, grad students and staff ) to see who all are interested in different sports. You don't need to be very good at any sports, we all are just playing for fun.
