NSAC | Coffee Hour Interview Series with BNC Alumni Professor- Dr. Susmita Dash

Hi Everyone! This week, for NSAC | Coffee Hour Special Series, our interviewee is BNC Alumni Professor- Dr. Susmita Dash. Dr. Dash received her Ph.D. in the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University in 2014. Currently, she is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. Prior to joining as a faculty, she worked as a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, USA.. Dr. Dash received Bilsland Dissertation Fellowship (2013‐2014), and Outstanding Research Award (2013) of Purdue University. She is also the recipient of the 2012 ASME Electronic & Photonic Packaging Division (EPPD) Student Member of the Year Award in recognition of a student who has excelled in research and has shown promise to be a strong contributor in the field of electronic and photonic packaging. [NSAC] No Fab Forum today; Let's be good lab users

Hi research fellows, All of us would love to work in a clean and tidy lab. Being a good user and keeping others in mind makes this happen. [cid:image003.png@01D73B64.61F6EDA0] Here is what BNC wiki page<https://wiki.itap.purdue.edu/display/BNCWiki/Lab+Policies+and+Best+Practice…> tells us. If the bottles in the hood are empty, refill them from a supply bottle. It is in the cabinet below the hood. (if not it can be taken from the storage cabinet) Label the chemicals, samples, or glassware that left unattended, with "researcher name_Major constituents of material_Date of Disposal/ return" Clean the workspace (fume hood, lab bench or equipment) after use, with * any chemicals on the hood surface wiped up or rinsed, * used cleanroom wipes removed * all aluminum foil removed * any glassware containing chemicals labeled and pushed to the back of the hood * any empty glassware removed * and chemical supply bottles returned to the proper storage cabinet (“Corrosives” for concentrated acids/bases or “Flammable” for solvents/developers). Together, we make the clean room clean and nano bigger. A kind reminder about the upcoming cleanroom shutdown: chemical processing should be completed by 6:00 am on Monday, May 3.<outlook-data-detector://0> And remove all glassware from the hoods. No Fab Forum-office hour today. NSAC | Coffee Hour Interview Series with BNC Alumni Professor- Prof. Wenshan Cai

Hi Everyone! This week, for NSAC | Coffee Hour Special Series, our interviewee is BNC Alumni Professor- Prof. Wenshan Cai. Prof. Cai received his PhD from Purdue University in 2008. In 2012, he joined the faculty of Georgia Institute of Technology as an Associate Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering, with a joint appointment in Materials Science and Engineering. Prior to this, he has been a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University. Prof. Cai was promoted to full Professor in 2021. Prof. Cai has published over 60 journal articles, which in total have been cited around 16,000 times. Prof. Cai has also authored the book- Optical Metamaterials: Fundamentals and Applications along with our very own BNC Professor- Prof. Vladimir Shalaev. Prof. Cai is the recipient of several national and international distinctions, including the renowned OSA/SPIE Joseph W. Goodman Book Writing Award (2014), the CooperVision Science & Technology Award (2016) and the Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award (2017).
