Dear BNC student- We are planning an academic trip to one of the places of interest around. This time we are considering to visit Fermilab on Nov. 14 (Thursday). Travel costs are covered by NSAC. This trip will probably take a whole day (leaving 8am in the morning and coming back in the evening). Birck Grad students, Having difficulty managing your ever-growing collection of literature papers? Looking for a free alternative to EndNote? There is a better way than using folders and subfolders! Mendeley is a free cross-platform application that helps researchers manage and annotate their scientific paper collections. Researchers can also set up collaborative projects, work and discuss in groups, and share data on Mendeley's web platform. Mendeley also integrates well with MS Word and LaTeX for a smooth workflow. In general you have been taught many valuables things by your professors, but there are many more things that you were not told. Some of you will experience culture shock. In this webinar you will not hear about the results of a rigorous sociological or anthropological study on the semiconductor industry workplace, but rather a personal perspective of someone who has worked in the industry for three and a half decades. You will hear about the characteristics of the industry as a whole and how it affects the work life of a typical engineer. You will learn about common misconceptions and pitfalls of novice engineers as well as traits and characteristics you will need to flourish in this unique environment. For experienced engineers you will hear about things that you have probably experienced but may not have reflected upon nor internalized.

Dear BRK Grad Students, The Nanotechnology Student Advisory Council (NSAC) will be hosting a callout tomorrow. Stop by BRK 1001 tomorrow at noon for information and some food/drinks. If you would like to get more involved in the Nanotechnology community here at Purdue or have ideas about how to improve student life here at Birck, consider joining one of our committees! NSAC committees help organize events such as Game Night, Hot Cocoa Breaks, and National Lab Visits, among other activities that help enrich life at Birck. *NSAC Committees:* Social and Hospitality Research Awareness Professional Development Policies and Procedures *About NSAC:* NSAC is an organization of graduate students at Purdue University who are interested in nanotechnology research. [SURF] Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium Volunteer Request

Dear graduate students, The Purdue Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program will be hosting the annual SURF Research Symposium on Wednesday, July 31, 2013. We are very excited to have 147 undergraduate students from Purdue and other universities present their research via poster and oral presentations! The research topics will span multiple engineering, science, and agricultural disciplines. We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to participate in the SURF Symposium as a session chair (facilitators of the oral presentations) or judge (poster or oral). We need many professional judges to evaluate oral and poster presentations throughout the day. We are asking volunteers to judge for approximately 1.0 hour- 1.5 hour blocks (but we would be grateful if judges could stay for multiple time blocks!). The SURF students appreciate that Purdue scientists and engineers, and the community come to the symposium to learn about their research projects. We really appreciate your time in helping us with the SURF 2013 Symposium as well. If you need help with travel there will be an open Lab tomorrow from 10am -Noon in WTHR 214. There will be plenty of people there to help! The open labs are geared toward specific questions or help with a particular travel, it is not a general overview. Thanks
