InnovateHer, a 36-hour hackathon celebrating marginalized gender and racial identities in technology is taking place on March 2nd and 3rd at Stewart Center! It is open to everyone - yes, men as well - in all stages of their coding journey. Organized by the Purdue Student Government in collaboration with 7 Purdue student organizations devoted to advancing women in STEM - Girls Who Code College Loops, Society of Woman Engineers (SWE), Women in Technology (WiT), Phi Sigma Rho, Computer Science Women's Network (CSWN), Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS), and Purdue Women in Science Program (WISP), InnovateHer's mission is to educate all on the beauty and importance of diversity and inclusion in STEM.

Purdue Engineering Frontiers Lecture Series: Venture Meets Mission
Tuesday, March 5 in ARMS Atrium
2:00 pm - 2:30 pm Special Announcement with President Chiang
2:30 pm - 3:30 pm Lecture: Venture Meets Mission with Arun Gupta
3:30 pm - 4:00 pm Panel Discussion
4:00 pm - 4:30 pm Book Signing (Venture Meets Mission by Arun Gupta, now a national bestseller) - FREE BOOK WHILE SUPPLIES LAST!!
The world is facing dramatic geopolitical, environmental, and technological shifts.
Venture Meets Mission argues that if business, government, and society come together, rebuild trust, and collaborate, we have a generational opportunity to address societal challenges like climate change, cybersecurity, disease outbreaks, food insecurity, and education. The book explains, with hope and passion, how our existing entrepreneurial ecosystem, reconnected to the ideals of democracy, can be the foundation for a new mission-driven capitalism.
The good news is the components of this problem-solving ecosystem already exist- people, purpose, and profit-and can be joined together for world-changing impact. The starting point is rebuilding broken trust among business, government, and society. The authors draw on their leadership experience with Silicon Valley innovation, venture capital, and the highest levels of the federal government. The book tells engaging stories of successful entrepreneurs, with diverse perspectives and intersectional experiences, who combine mission and venture to solve critical societal problems. Venture Meets Mission seeks to inspire a generation of students, young professionals, and entrepreneurs to pursue mission-driven ventures that can make the world a better place. It also explains how forward-thinking government officials and policymakers can harness private sector entrepreneurship and innovation to solve society's problems.

InnovateHer 2024
March 2 and 3
8:00 am Saturday to 6:45 pm Sunday
Interested in solving women's issues?
Want to learn how to code? All experience levels welcomed.
If you have no coding experience, don't worry! We will be organizing a series of technical workshops to familiarize you with all you will need to know to successfully complete your InnovateHer projects. But it's not all just code, code, code - we will also conduct workshops discussing the issue of diversity and inclusion in technology, providing a look into the struggles women and other marginalized communities face in male-dominated spaces like STEM, making InnovateHer a holistic experience benefiting any and all participating.
InnovateHer is sponsored by Wolfram Language and Wabash amongst others, and will also host officials from Meta, Oculus, Wal-Mart, and Microsoft in a series of panels and talks, which will be an immersive learning experience for all! Be prepared for more than just learning, though, fun is definitely included, with stargazing and s'mores breaks!

Moonshot Pitch Competition
What do PayPal, Adranos, Nike, Socio, Patagonia, and Facebook all have in common? They all started from an IDEA!
Great ideas can come from all walks of life. Some can turn into multibillion-dollar tech businesses while others may be a lifestyle business or a local non-profit that fills a need in the community.
Purdue Innovates is proud to present the Moonshot Pitch Competition this Spring. I've attached a digital flyer and info below on the idea pitch competition that is open to ALL Purdue University students. Undergrads and Graduate students are welcome to submit their ideas for this semi-annual challenge. Our team will be posting more info across social media and around campus over the next few days and would love if you helped spread the word and encourage any of your fellow students and acquaintances across campus to participate.
Moonshot Pitch Challenge<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpurdueinn…> is an ideation-focused pitch challenge that asks students to think big - beyond the classroom - and pitch an idea that solves a real-world problem in 2 minutes of less!
Any idea can be submitted for the Challenge! Student teams will have to submit a video describing their idea and decide which category their idea falls into. There are 3 categories to choose from:
* EARTH (Social Ideas)
* ORBIT (Business Ideas)
* Moonshot (Dent in the Universe Ideas)
No idea is a bad idea, but only the most thoughtful and well-presented pitches will make it to the finals event. Finalists will compete for a prize pool of $5,500! More info can be found here https://purdueinnovates.org/incubator/moonshot-pitch-challenge/<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpurdueinn…>
Inspiration is all around us and sometimes we just need a nudge of encouragement to get that idea out of our heads and into the world...consider this your nudge!

* EARTH (Social Ideas)
* ORBIT (Business Ideas)
* Moonshot (Dent in the Universe Ideas)
No idea is a bad idea, but only the most thoughtful and well-presented pitches will make it to the finals event. Finalists will compete for a prize pool of $5,500! More info can be found here https://purdueinnovates.org/incubator/moonshot-pitch-challenge/<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpurdueinn…>
Inspiration is all around us and sometimes we just need a nudge of encouragement to get that idea out of our heads and into the world...consider this your nudge!

This is an excellent way to get paid to help your peers excel in their educational careers, and work with the amazing ASC team. If you remember going to SI as a freshman or sophomore, or if you've used any of the ASC's many other amazing resources, you know how helpful the ASC can be, this is a great way to get involved in passing this resource onto the next cohort of students. The job is a lot of fun, and is a very fulfilling way to help your fellow Boilermakers succeed at Purdue! Giant Leaps Summit
February 23 and 24
You are invited to attend the Giant Leaps Summit: National Defense in Space, hosted by Purdue Air Force ROTC and in collaboration with Purdue Polytechnic Institute. This is a two-day event on Friday and Saturday, February 23rd and 24th which will take place at various locations on Purdue's campus. The Giant Leaps Summit will unite Purdue University, the Department of Defense, and the space industry to discuss the future of our national defense in the ever-changing space domain. The summit will begin on Friday, February 23rd at 6:00 pm with a keynote from Purdue President Mung Chiang. The bulk of the event will take place on Saturday the 24th beginning at 9:00 am with an opening ceremony. We will immediately move into an unclassified scene setter by Col Marqus Randall, Commander of the National Space Intelligence Center. At 10:00 am, the commander of Air Force Global Strike Command, General Thomas Bussiere, will deliver a keynote on strategic deterrence in space. As the day goes on there will be many more panels and briefs on topics such as near-future research, great power competition, tactical leadership, women in space, and industry developments. We have a wide array of guests who you won't want to miss. But that's not all, we will also be hosting an invite-only career fair for a limited number of students. This career fair will have several industry leaders such as Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman.
If this interests you, please fill out the linked pre-registration form<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpurdue.ca…>. There are a very limited number of student slots due to the high demand of this event so do not delay submitting your pre-registration. Those who make the cut-off will receive the location, schedule, and further registration information at a later date. Please respond to this email if you have any questions. Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you!

InnovateHer 2024
March 2 and 3
8:00 am Saturday to 6:45 pm Sunday
Interested in solving women's issues?
Want to learn how to code? All experience levels welcomed.
Go to http://innovate-her.com<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Finnovate-h…> to learn more and register!

The new FAFSA is available online now at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fstudentai…>. Submitting the form online is the quickest way to get your information to Purdue.
Many of the scholarships offered by the College of Engineering are considered "need based" which means that you must report your family income or your personal income if emancipated through the FAFSA form and make sure it's on file at Purdue to be considered. Even if you don't think that you or your family meet the threshold for need based assistance, it is good practice to complete a FAFSA if you're seeking a scholarship.
The College of Engineering considers all students who are enrolled in the College for scholarships without the need for an application. Individual schools may also have scholarships to offer to specific majors. You will need to check your school's website for more information or ask your Academic Advisor if there are scholarships available! If you have questions about scholarships, please email engrscholarships(a)purdue.edu<mailto:engrscholarships@purdue.edu>.
