Since I was not able to create an IU Fedex account, I don't have a way of identifying these deliveries to a specific group (I did sign for one of them in April). Purdue faculty websites

Hello all, I’ve been getting questions about creating websites for Purdue faculty. We basically have three options to offer, so let me walk you through them: 1. We can make a website like this: https://engineering.purdue.edu/MYMECH We will build it based on information you provide, but that is the faculty website template we are given. For a URL, you can choose engineering.purdue.edu/AnythingYouWant. 2. You can pay for an outside vendor like Squarespace/Wix/Wordpress, and maintain the website yourself (or ask a grad student to do it). Something like this: https://www.babakanasori.com/<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.babak…> 3. You don’t have to have a website if you don’t need one! Many of our faculty just use LinkedIn or other social media, or Google Scholar, or other platforms. I can always add info to your directory page, if all you need is to post basic information that rarely changes: https://engineering.purdue.edu/ME/People/faculty.html Of our West Lafayette faculty, they are basically split evenly among all 3 of these options, so there is no “right” or “wrong” choice. I've also added all the new emails to the scanner so that everybody is able to scan and use their contact button on the machine instead of manually putting in your email(s) each time. I'm putting in the order for additional paper now but all machines are fully stocked at this time. ME Special Seminar: Cross-Country Mobility Modeling in the Czech Republic [Tuesday, September 24, 2024 11:00AM-12PM, SL 165] Prof. Marian Rybansky University of Defence, Brno, Czech Republic marian.rybansky(a)unob.cz<mailto:marian.rybansky@unob.cz> Abstract: The presentation focuses on the technology of navigation of off-road vehicles of the Army of the Czech Republic. It discusses the classical paper maps of terrain passability and the transition to digital mobility models, allowing the calculation of the common influence of individual terrain objects on the movement of a particular off-road vehicle. Among the terrain features calculated are longitudinal and transverse slopes of terrain relief, soils, vegetation, watercourses, and weather effects. The calculation of the optimal route for a particular vehicle can be implemented in both raster and vector format in the form of a cost map or a navigation trajectory. About the Speaker: Prof. Marian Rybansky, Ph.D. Graduated at Military Academy in Brno in the field of geodesy and cartography in 1982. Senior editor (1982-84) and the head of the automated map production department (1984-86) at the Military Geographical Institute in Prague. Doctoral study at the Military Academy in Brno in the field of cartography (1986-89). Head of the cartography group at the Department of Military Information on the Territory, MA Brno (1994-2005). In 1996. Internship at CFB Borden, Ontario, Canada (1996). Professor of geodesy and cartography at the University of Defence in 2021. Main research area: analyses of the landscape in terms of its impact on the mobility and navigation of military vehicles. Main researcher, resp. co-investigator of 26 national and 7 international projects. Author or co-author of more than 200 publications including 4 books and 10 methodologies for industry. Member of the ICA Commission for Cartography in Crisis Management and Early Warning, member of the International Society of Terrain Vehicle Systems, member of the NATO panel focused on the development of the Next-Generation NATO Reference Mobility Model (NG-NRMM). In 2021 - awarded NATO AVT Excellence award for helping to develop the NG-NRMM. Lectures at dozens of universities, research institutions and conferences. In 2018 - award for best contribution at the 9th IGRSM conference on Geospatial and Remote Sensing - Kuala Lumpur. Chair, org. board member of 20 conferences. Member of the editorial boards of 3 journals indexed in the SCOPUS database. ME-Indy safety kick-off meeting: mandatory and in-person, 09/23/2024

Dear ME Indy colleagues, As Purdue officially kicked off the operation at Indy campus, the responsibility of building and laboratory safety is being transferred to Purdue as well. The School of Mechanical Engineering has been tasked with administering the safety program for the Research Labs in the School. This includes transitioning all the labs within ME-Indy from the IUPUI safety system into the Purdue equivalents as defined by Purdue Environmental Health and Safety (EHS, https://www.purdue.edu/ehps/) I am writing to draw your attention to a safety meeting with all ME-Indy faculty members who have research space on September 23, 2024. This is a mandatory in-person meeting where we will introduce the requirements from EHS and current practices at West Lafayette campus. Please understand there could be significant differences from the previous IU operation and current Purdue operation. Our Facilities & Operations team will give the introduction first (~60 mins) followed by Q&A session (~30 mins). We will set up two sessions to make sure everyone can find one fitting the schedule of that day. Zach will send out notice about the conference room and time slots. All ME faculty who has research space assigned are requested to attend one of the two sessions. This applies to everyone who conducts experimental or computational research with graduate students, postdocs, and other research staff. Since this is the first time to introduce Purdue Safety procedure, the presence of PI (not delegates) is required. An ME-Indy Safety Committee will be formed soon to handle the routine need of safety-related issues. There is an urgency to start the new safety procedure, so we must call this meeting with a short notice. Thanks for your understanding.
