*LORRE March Safety issue* 3/7/2018 To all, /New Class II Biological Safety Cabinets (BSC)/ //A new BSC was installed in lab #232. The operating instructions will be posted on the face of the machine. Please leave the BSC hand-held controller in its place, to prevent losing it. This BSC is mainly used for the Lilly project. For safety reasons, other projects involving pathogens (e.g. /Salmonella, Listeria/) should continue to use Lab #335. /New Refrigerators/ There are two new glass door refrigerators. Each is set to 4-5˚C. One is in Lab #232 and the other in #333. These lock, and the keys will be kept in both their respective labs /and/ the LORRE office. Refrigerator #232 is mainly for Lilly project-related materials. Refrigerator #333 is for HPLC, GC samples, some chemicals, and buffers. /Autoclave/ //The autoclave is vital to LORRE. Some problems have recently arisen. We would like to emphasize:*Every day, the system needs to be flushed*. When doing so, /completely/ open the drain valve- it takes multiple full rotations. Proper use will avoid damage to the autoclave. Every time you use the autoclave, /fill out the Century Sterilizer Operation Record sheet. / Thank you for your cooperation, LORRE Safety Committee
