LORRE March Safety
issue
3/7/2018
To all,
New Class II
Biological
Safety Cabinets (BSC)
A new BSC was installed in lab
#232. The operating instructions will be posted on the face of the
machine.
Please leave the BSC hand-held controller in its place, to prevent
losing it.
This BSC is mainly used for the Lilly project. For safety reasons,
other
projects involving pathogens (e.g. Salmonella, Listeria)
should continue
to use Lab #335.
New
Refrigerators
There are two new glass door
refrigerators. Each is set to 4-5˚C. One is in Lab #232 and the
other in #333.
These lock, and the keys will be kept in both their respective
labs and
the LORRE office. Refrigerator #232 is mainly for Lilly
project-related
materials. Refrigerator #333 is for HPLC, GC samples, some
chemicals, and
buffers.
Autoclave
The autoclave is vital to LORRE.
Some problems have recently arisen. We would like to emphasize:
Every day,
the system needs to be flushed. When doing so, completely open
the
drain valve- it takes multiple full rotations. Proper use will
avoid damage
to the autoclave.
Every time you use the autoclave, fill
out
the Century Sterilizer Operation Record sheet.
Thank you for your cooperation,
LORRE Safety Committee
