Update on CCE Head search

Lyles School faculty and staff, I write to provide you an update on the national search for the next Head of the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering (LSCCE). Since my last communication to you in December, we have retained a search firm Russell Reynolds, put a search advisory committee in place, and they have made a lot of progress. I am very grateful to the committee co-chairs - Bill Crossley the Uhrig and Vournas Head of the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Chris Burke, Distinguished Engineering Alumnus, and to all the committee members from the LSCCE: Prof Melba Crawford Prof Ming Qu Prof Venkatesh Merwade Prof Panagiota Karava Prof Akanshu Sharma Prof Mohammad Jahanshahi Eric Putman Prof Sogand Mohammadhasanzadeh Prof Andrew Tarko Brandon Fulk, and Prof Pablo Zavattieri The team has met with many stakeholder groups in LSCCE, finalized and posted the job advertisement, and is now actively engaged in sourcing excellent prospects for the position. First round zoom interviews are expected in early April, and campus visits of finalists are to be conducted in late April. I want to thank all of you for helping the committee identify prospects and in advance for actively engaging the finalists when they visit campus in late April and providing your essential input and feedback. Dear Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering colleagues, Through some informal feedback, I have learned that not all of you are up to date about the head search as you could be. I hope this email helps rectify that somewhat. For those of you who do not know me, I am the Head in Aeronautics and Astronautics, and the Dean has asked me to serve as the "head from another school" co-chair of the search committee. Joining me as the alumni co-chair of the search committee is Chris Burke; I believe many of you are familiar with Dr. Burke and his ties to CCE at Purdue. In addition to his very successful consulting engineering and surveying company, he is a member of the NAE and a Professor of Practice at the University of Illinois - Chicago. Because the search for the Bob Bowen Head is very important, the College has hired Russell Reynolds, a search firm with expertise in academic administrator searches, and Jett Pihakis is the specialist helping us out with the search, including marketing, targeting potential candidates, etc. We have several CCE faculty and staff on the search committee and a representative from the College's development team. The committee has been working already to identify potential candidates for the Head position; if you haven't been contacted by one of your colleagues on the search committee to provide suggestions, please reach out to one of them with your suggestions. You can also send recommendations to me if you prefer. A large part of our activity to date has been to prepare a position description that Jett and his Russell Reynolds team is sending to targeted individuals and a job announcement that is posted and shared in publications and online sources (see https://jobs.chronicle.com/job/37941677/bob-bowen-head-lyles-school-of-civi…<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fjobs.chro…> as an example). Our plan is to be reviewing initial candidate applications in the last week of February and the first week of March, with the intent to eventually have on campus interviews the week of 20 April. It is a slightly aggressive schedule, but gives the committee the best opportunity to recommend a candidate and potentially have them in place for the start of the 2026-27 academic year. I hope this provides an update that gives you an idea of where we are in the search process. Thanks to the CCE members of the search committee for helping with this. Civil Engineering Alumni Achievement Awards - Invitations

Happy Friday, faculty and staff! I hope each of you are doing well! I am writing to share that the invitations for the 2025-2026 Civil Engineering Alumni Achievement Awards diner and awards program have been placed in mailboxes in the Interaction Room/HAMP 1129. I normally would not send an email about the invitations so soon, though I want to provide some clarification. Faculty and staff can attend the dinner and awards program at no cost. When you register to attend and select the Faculty/Staff option, it should automatically reduce the cost of the dinner for you. However, if it does not, then please use the promo code listed on the bottom of the invitation (CEAAA26). You may choose to bring a guest with you; however, they must pay the cost of the dinner, $60. [Cce-all-list] Election of At-Large Member of the FGC Committee

Colleagues: As I noted, we need to elect an at-large representative to the FGC due to Sam's having been elected last fall as the representative from Transportation. This will be an "early" election for a two-year period, as we need to cover the remainder of this academic year as well as the next cycle. Note that faculty of Practice may be elected to serve as the representative "at large". All committee members must have at least a 50% appointment in CCE. According to our process, by default, anyone receiving this email who does NOT want to be considered needs to indicate so by responding to Brad Caffery and me via email.
