Dear Linda: Nate and I, on behalf of our colleagues, wanted to follow up on your kind note and to tell you that we will miss you – most of all I will miss you - after 24 years of wonderful service to LORRE, to Purdue University, and to our students. I feel very fortunate that you chose to join LORRE many years ago, and appreciate the many things that you have done, and initiatives that you have undertaken on behalf of all of us. You have helped to ensure the smooth functioning of student training and undergraduate research experiences in LORRE, and have made our laboratory a welcoming place for our students, staff and researchers from across the campus and the world. The emphasis on safety is very important to our laboratory, and we all recognize what you have done in safety training and processes for our laboratory and the people who work here. This is a major achievement, and something that you have worked on very hard, in addition to your other responsibilities. We are all proud of what you have achieved. We are sad that you will be retiring, but at the same time understand you want to be able to enjoy the next phase in your life. You will be difficult to replace but we will be recruiting someone else. We are open to your suggestions of possible people who might be interested in applying for this position, and advice on how to continue the successful programs that you have developed over the years. In the meantime, please accept our congratulations and recognition of what you have done for LORRE. Thank you! I have really enjoyed the university environment. This is a place to gain knowledge and cultivate talents. I obtained my master’s degree in China, and worked at a Chinese university. After I came to the United States, I began working at Purdue, and have been here for 24 years. I leave full of nostalgia- This has been the most precious chapter of my life. When I arrived in LORRE, I was fortunate to meet the best and most outstanding professor Prof. Michael Ladisch. His keen insight and long-term vision led everyone to meet scientific research challenges, and inspired all of us to work hard. He is my biggest influence, and has always been a model from which to learn. He has taught me the spirit of research and excellent leadership methods. He has created opportunities for everyone on our team to develop, because of his full trust and support. Because of him, I was able to work on the Cell Concentration and Pathogen Recovery project, and played a lead role in lab management and safety. His guidance has a lot to do with my successes, and the advancement of my career. I am grateful for everything he has done for me. Prof. Nathan Mosier is a professor that I respect greatly. He uses his expertise, experience, and wisdom to patiently guide students through the toughest problems in his research projects. Everyone who has worked with Dr. Mosier has learned great deal from him. He has been especially helpful with the high-performance liquid chromatography machines. This has allowed the LORRE Recharge Center play an important role in fermentation experiments, enzyme reactions and bio-separations research across campus. I am also very appreciative of Carla Carie. I have been working with her since I came to LORRE. I admire her conscientious devotion to LORRE. She has given me a lot of help, I’ll always remember her. Prof. Abigail Engelberth, Prof. Gozdem Kilaz are very caring, and their support is very dear to me. Prof. Kilaz included me as a participant writing in her biofuels research project group. My heart is full of gratitude. Dr. Eduardo Ximenes, thank you for being accommodating, and for helping in our work. We overcame difficulties and worked hard while developing the hollow-fiber pathogen detection technology. This has honed my strength and determination to succeed. Our experiments for E. coli detection have been an important opportunity for me. Dr. Studie, Samira, and Antonio, thank you for working as part of the safety committee. I attach a great importance to the friendships we have built during this work. Working with you has always been a pleasure. Your dedication and hard work has made LORRE a safe environment for the studies, work, and lives of everyone. Petr, Pablo, Robert, Emma, Jessica, Elena, Jonathan, Abhijit and Honggu: I will have left LORRE by the time you receive your Ph.D, but I am proud and happy for you, and know that you will succeed in the years to come. Justin, Casey, Fabricio, Nate, Melody, Jiwon and Sophia: I enjoy you. You are so eager to learn, so passionate, so pure, so ideal and ambitious. Whenever I see you grow and progress, see you get an A, or get an award, I am very happy. Thank you for the joy you’ve given me- to work and study with you has kept my heart young. I am reluctant to leave you, I will miss you. Mariane Molina and Dr. Renata Almeida, as visiting scholars who have just arrived at LORRE, it has been a pleasure to get to know you. I wish you all the best for you research in LORRE. Thank you Dr. Daehwan Kim, we helped each other a lot in the lab and worked together very well. Thank you to Professor Kevin Solomon. Thank you,Casey Hooker. There are so many people I want to thank. Especially Prof. George Tsao, Founding Director of LORRE. He devoted his efforts to the creation and development of LORRE, and was the first to give me the opportunity to work at LORRE. I will never forget his selfless leadership, encouragement, and help. You are truly a life-long teacher, and I will always be grateful of you. Thank you so much Dr. Nancy Ho, I trained and improved immensely during my work with her lead group. I love this laboratory, and all you, for making every day fun, impactful, and rewarding. I am so fortunate and proud to call myself a member of LORRE. I wish you happiness and success in your future endeavors.
