*_LORRE May Safety Issue_*
(05/20/2014)
Dear all:
Last Thursday (5/15/2014) a representative from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was on campus conducting a hazardous waste inspection. The main mission was to check that *all chemical containers are closed and properly labeled, including HPLC waste containers.*
As requested by EPA we performed a self --audit. During the self-audit, we found a few violation in the Lab. Please, see the pictures. Below identifying show "no labeled" or "not properly labeled" and "not properly cover".
Suggestion:
1)Containers must be kept closed at all times except when using.
2)Labeled necessary for any container storage liquid.
3)Use tape for Labeling, if directing by writing on the glass bottler or flask, it easily confuses people because it is repetitive
Allfaculty, staff, and students promote individual accountability for safety and regulatory compliance at Purdue . Purdue could be charged withlarge fines if we failed to comply with properly labeling and storing policy. Performing self-audits under our lab is a must. Please mention each other. Keep our Lab label safe and in compliance with EPA regulations.
Thank you for cooperation.
