Recruitment of Undergraduate Students for Participation in Construction Safety Research - PI: Dr. Behzad Esmaeili, Associate Professor, joint appointment at IE and CCE - Application information: If you are fully available from October 6th to 10th, please send your CV by 1 PM on Wednesday, September 25th. - Eligibility: * Must be Purdue IE 2024 fall semester "ENROLLED" undergraduate student * Should be Fully committed to support construction safety (human factor) experiment from October 6th to October 10th (must attend two days of training before the departure). * Must be able to drive 2 hours 15 min (from campus to a construction site located in IL). * Also, will be part of research team after the trip to conduct other experiments (if you want to). - Paid $15/hour. - Work Schedule: * About 9 hours on October 7th and 8th (7 AM-12 PM and 1 PM-4 PM); includes break time. * About 10 hours on October 9th and 10th (6 AM- 4 PM) -; includes break time. * Etc - Job Description: Under the guidance of the lead researcher (a Ph.D. student), your role as an undergraduate research intern will be to assist the team in setting up and conducting a construction safety experiment with real construction tasks. You will help ensure the proper setup and operation of advanced sensors used to measure psychological and physiological data. You would be able to participate/ understand the whole research protocol. This is a great opportunity to enhance your CV. -Extra Information: A contract will be sent after the interview. A rental car (with Purdue insurance), accommodation, and three meals a day will be provided during this period. Dear Civil and Construction Engineering Students, On behalf of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Purdue Student Chapter, we are excited to extend a warm invitation to tomorrow's seminar featuring an esteemed external speaker, Kelvin C.P. Wang, Ph.D., P.E., Dist.M.ASCE. Event Details: Date: 09/24/2024 Time: 3:30 to 4:20 p.m. Location: Delon and Elizabeth Hampton Hall of Civil Engineering (HAMP), Room 1144 Presentation Topic: Advanced Technologies for Rural Transportation: Automation through AI Abstract: The Western Transportation Institute (WTI) is renowned for its rural transportation research and education, including its program in road ecology, among others. This presentation overviews the programs with WTI, and opportunities in applying advanced technologies, such as AI based automation to solve transportation problems in rural America. The topics include sensors and detections of mammals to reduce animal-vehicle collisions, winter maintenance, safety and infrastructure needs on tribal lands, and automated assessment of transportation infrastructure such as pavements and bridges. Speaker Bio: Dr. Wang started his professional career in 1989 at Arizona DOT (ADOT). Since 1993, he has been a university faculty with substantial professional society service record such as being ASCE T&DI President for FY 2017. For nearly 30 years, Dr. Wang led his team to tackle the problem of automating survey of pavement distresses. His technological contributions in recent years include sub-mm 3D laser imaging of pavements at full-lane coverage & highway speed for data collection, & automated data processing for distresses and safety evaluations based on unique and novel Deep-Learning techniques. His research has extended to the evaluation of airfield, bridge, rail, and other infrastructure elements, and their safety characteristics. His world-leading technologies and AI based solutions are used in several countries. In 2021, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) bestowed its highest honor to Dr. Wang as a Distinguished Member of ASCE (Dist.M.ASCE). He received several ASCE awards, PhD in CE in 1992 from Arizona State University, and BS and MS degrees from China’s Jiaotong Universities. His university experience includes faculty members at University of Arkansas, Oklahoma State University, and Montana State University. Since Aug 2023, he is professor and director of the Western Transportation Institute (WTI) at Montana State University. He is founder and CTO of WayLink Systems Corporation. Dr. Wang currently serves as the Director of the Western Transportation Institute (WTI) at Montana State University and is the founder and CTO of WayLink Systems Corporation.
