Greetings, CCE faculty and staff! On behalf of the CCE Staff Awards Committee, I am writing to request nominations for both the CCE Outstanding Staff Award and the Mary Ann Zimmerman Purdue Civil Engineering Innovation Award. Nominations are due to Julie Jesiek (jjesiek(a)purdue.edu<mailto:jjesiek@purdue.edu>) on November 8, 2024 by the end of the day. More information is provided below. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. CCE Outstanding Staff Award The purpose of this award is to recognize, encourage, and promote outstanding Staff in the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering. The award is open to all administrative, professional, and clerical staff in the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering with at least a half-time appointment and at least three years of continuous service to the School. The award may not be given to the same individual more than once in a three-year period. The nominee must be an employee of the Lyles School of Civil and Construction Engineering at the time of nomination. The awardee is expected to remain an employee of LSCCE until presentation of the award at the annual ceremony except for special cases such as retirement. It is awarded to an individual to encourage and support civil and construction engineering innovations that further the School's progress through education, research, conferences, or other outreach activities. All full-time faculty, staff and students are eligible. The award includes $1000 to be used for the innovative activity for which the award was given. The recipient is selected by the CCE Staff Awards Committee based on nominations and supporting letters. [Cce-all-list] Chad Jafvert's retirement message

All: As many of you may know, Chad Jafvert will be retiring from Purdue at the end of this semester. Chad joined the faculty of Civil Engineering in 1991 (33 years ago) after having spent five years as a senior research environmental engineer at the U.S. EPA Laboratory in Athens, GA (after 1 year as a National Research Council Post-doc at the same lab). Since 2013, he has had a joint appointment with the Environmental and Ecological Engineering program at Purdue, and since 2018, has held a Lyles Family Professorship. He has mentored 21 Ph.D. students to completion, and has 3 more that will finish within the next year. Many of his former students hold faculty positions at universities in the U.S. and elsewhere. He plans on teaching a Maymester course in 2025 and will be taking students to Peru to evaluate water and sanitation systems in indigenous communities in the Amazon rain forest. Please congratulate Chad on his wonderful career and wish him the best in his future endeavors! We will likely do some sort of an evet for him in the spring semester.
